Job Description Job Title: Electrical Estimator Job Description The Electrical Estimator prepares accurate and detailed cost estimates for complex electrical construction projects across commercial, industrial, medical, and educational facilities. This role evaluates bid documents, defines the scope of work, and develops a competitive estimating strategy while ensuring the quality and accuracy of all estimates prior to client submission. The Electrical Estimator collaborates closely with vendors, suppliers, and project stakeholders during design and pre-bid phases and actively contributes to the continuous improvement of estimating procedures, systems, and documentation throughout the full electrical construction lifecycle. Responsibilities • Prepare detailed and comprehensive cost estimates for complex electrical construction projects, including commercial, industrial, medical, and education facilities., • Review bid documents to determine the scope of work and develop a clear estimating approach and bidding strategy., • Analyze project specifications, drawings, and related documentation to ensure all electrical components and systems are accurately captured in the estimate., • Develop, organize, and maintain itemized cost breakdowns, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs., • Review and validate contract proposal estimates before submission to ensure accuracy, completeness, and alignment with project requirements., • Ensure quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) of all estimates prior to client delivery., • Collaborate with vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors to obtain pricing, evaluate quotations, and confirm availability of materials and services., • Coordinate with project stakeholders during design and pre-bid phases to clarify scope, address questions, and incorporate design changes into estimates., • Use estimating software, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office tools to prepare, analyze, and present cost estimates and proposals., • Support the preparation of formal bid proposals, including written narratives, clarifications, and supporting documentation., • Assist with pricing change orders by evaluating scope changes and updating estimates accordingly., • Contribute to the continuous improvement of estimating procedures, systems, templates, and documentation., • Apply a strong understanding of the full electrical construction lifecycle from design through project closeout when developing estimates., • Interpret and utilize one-line diagrams, schematics, P&IDs, layout drawings, and wiring diagrams to inform accurate estimates., • Incorporate applicable standards, including NEC, NFPA, UL, and ISA, into the estimating process., • Collaborate with project management and preconstruction teams to support project planning, budgeting, and scheduling based on estimate data., • Minimum of 2 years of electrical estimating experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience., • Advanced knowledge of estimating techniques and computerized cost data systems., • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite for analysis, documentation, and presentation of estimates., • Proficiency in Bluebeam for digital takeoffs and drawing review., • Proficiency in electrical estimating software for preparing detailed cost estimates., • Strong understanding of electrical construction, including commercial construction and preconstruction processes., • Ability to read and interpret one-line diagrams, schematics, P&IDs, layout drawings, and wiring diagrams., • Strong understanding of NEC, NFPA, UL, and ISA standards and their application to electrical construction projects., • Knowledge of wiring techniques, including color-coding, sizing, de-rating, and insulation classifications., • Ability to review bid documents and determine scope of work accurately., • Strong skills in construction estimating, pricing, and cost analysis., • Ability to prepare and review proposals and contract estimates with attention to detail., • Effective collaboration and communication skills for working with vendors, suppliers, and project stakeholders., • Experience with electrical construction in commercial, industrial, medical, or educational facilities., • Familiarity with project management and construction management principles as they relate to estimating and preconstruction., • Experience with construction estimating software and computerized cost data systems., • Ability to support project coordination activities related to estimating and preconstruction., • Experience using Revit or similar tools to review models and extract quantities for estimating., • Comfort working with change orders and incorporating scope changes into existing estimates., • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to identify cost-saving opportunities and value engineering options. Work Environment The role operates in a professional construction and preconstruction environment that combines office-based work with regular interaction with project teams, vendors, and suppliers. You will work extensively with digital tools such as Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, electrical estimating software, and potentially Revit to review drawings, perform takeoffs, and develop detailed cost estimates. The position involves reviewing electrical plans, diagrams, and specifications in a structured, deadline-driven setting where accuracy and thorough documentation are essential. Standard business hours typically apply, with additional time as needed to meet bid deadlines and support pre-bid activities. The environment emphasizes collaboration, clear communication, and organized documentation, with a focus on delivering high-quality estimates that support successful electrical construction projects. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bakersfield, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $47.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
