Operating Programs The Center’s operating programs, including the award-winning Red Hook Community Justice Center and Midtown Community Justice Center, test new ideas, solve difficult problems, and attempt to achieve systemic change within the justice system. Our projects include community-based violence prevention programs, alternatives to incarceration, reentry initiatives, and court-based initiatives that reduce the use of unnecessary incarceration and promote positive individual and family change. Through this programming, we have produced tangible results like safer streets, reduced incarceration, and improved neighborhood perceptions of justice. Research The Center's research teams are staffed with social scientists, data analysts, and lawyers who are academically-trained or have lived experience and who conduct research in the U.S. and globally on diverse criminal-legal system and justice issues. Their work includes evaluating programs and policies; conducting exploratory, community-based studies; and providing research translation and strategic planning for system actors. The Center has published studies on topics including court and jail reform, intimate partner violence, restorative justice, gun violence, reentry, sixth amendment rights, and progressive prosecution. The research teams strive to make their work meaningful and actionable to the communities they work with, policymakers, and practitioners. Policy & Expert Assistance The Center provides hands-on, planning and implementation assistance to a wide range of jurisdictions in areas of reform such as problem-solving courts (e.g., community courts, treatment courts, domestic violence courts), tribal justice, reducing incarceration and the use of fines/fees and reducing crime and violence. Our current expert assistance takes many forms, including help with analyzing data, strategic planning and consultation, policy guidance, and hosting site visits to its operating programs in the New York City area. Center Support A dedicated support team within the Center ensures the smooth functioning of operations across various domains, including finance, legal, technology, human resources, fundraising, real estate, and communications. Comprising 15% of the organization's staff, these teams provide essential infrastructure support and innovative solutions aligned with the Center's mission and values. THE OPPORTUNITY Queens Community Justice Center (QCJC) operates an array of programming for local youth, with a particular focus on engaging those with justice involvement. Current initiatives include Youth Impact (peer-led restorative youth diversion program), an alternative-to-detention program, an alternative to incarceration program, workforce development initiatives, a trauma-informed, survivor-centered program for youth who are at risk of commercial sexual exploitation, and several mentorship programs. By offering positive pro-social programming for young people, QCJC aims to stop the cycle of delinquency and crime for adolescents and reduce reliance on detention. The comprehensive programming offers all participating young people leadership development and service opportunities designed to promote positive engagement in their communities. Atlas works to prevent violence by meeting people during a crisis, like a recent arrest or open court case and connecting them to a change process that nurtures hope and strengthens relationships. As part of Atlas, QCJC is offering FFT to young people at elevated risk for violence in the community, victimization, or a re-arrest. FFT is an evidence-based intervention for youth and families. This high-quality, strength-focused family counseling model is designed for high-risk youth and young adults who have been referred by the criminal court, juvenile justice, mental health, school, or child welfare systems. Services are short-term and typically offered in the home, though services can be offered in the office or other community settings. QCJC is seeking to hire a Community Engagement Specialist for a community-based violence prevention program that aims to reduce violent recidivism through intensive and voluntary therapeutic services. This program is part of the Atlas initiative and uses the evidence-based Functional Family Therapy (FFT) model to engage young people and their families in holistic anti-violence services. Reporting to the Justice Center’s FFT Coordinator, the Community Engagement Specialist will be primarily responsible for conducting initial outreach in the community in multiple ways, including in-person. The Community Engagement Specialist is the first and primary point of contact for potential referral partners. The Community Engagement Specialist will also assist with connecting potential clients with voluntary therapeutic programming and resources. Responsibilities Summary Provides case management of Intensive Supervision Appearance Program (ISAP) participants from entry to release by administering the program’s policies and procedures as defined by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) contract. Primary Duties and Responsibilities • Develops, implements, coordinates, reviews and updates case management and individual service plans for ISAP participants in conformance with state and federal regulations and program requirements. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: • Bachelor’s degree is preferred, and at least an Associate’s degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Counseling, Criminal Justice, or Human Services is required, • At least one (l) year of experience in social services, counseling, crisis intervention, family services, preventive services, or housing services is required, • Experience facilitating groups for homeless adults, specialized knowledge of substance abuse issues and treatment, and/or family dynamics treatment experience is required, • Bilingual language ability is preferred, • Excellent written and verbal communication skills ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Utilizing the Department of Homeless Services (DHS) Client Assistance and Re-housing Enterprise System (CARES), complete family’s intake assessments, service plans/independent living plans, housing plans, next step conferences/transfers, incident reports, progress notes, etc., • Utilizing the DHS Client Assistance and Re-housing Enterprise System (CARES), review accessible information from the Human Resource Administration, Administration for Children Services, Department of Probation, Department of Homeless Services, etc., • Utilizing the DHS Client Assistance and Re-housing Enterprise System (CARES), ensure that all information is updated in the system and documented in a timely fashion as required by DHS, • Provide advocacy and referral services to ensure clients receive appropriate benefits, entitlements, and services, thereby enhancing their transition to permanent housing while minimizing the length of time families are homeless, • Coordinate services to stabilize the family unit, deal with problems of substance abuse, or improve housekeeping, parenting, and financial management skills so the goal of permanent housing may be realized, • Assess and identify the clients' needs, formulate appropriate plans of service, monitor and document the progress of service plans, and document all significant interactions with/on behalf of clients to ensure the effective delivery of service to families while ensuring compliance with State, City, and Agency regulations, • Develop and maintain appropriate helping relationships with clients to assist them in making the most of their residency at the facility and facilitate their active involvement in the achievement of service goals, • Provide appropriate individual counseling and crisis intervention services to families to help stabilize and minimize the negative impact of the family's displacement, • Maintain familiarity with off-site and on-site program resources for homeless families and refer families to appropriate resources to ensure that they receive the most beneficial services, • Facilitate groups to address family issues, enhance life skills, and assist families in achieving self-sufficiency and a successful transition to permanent housing, • Coordinate client services provided by other social services staff to ensure that families receive the necessary and appropriate services in a timely fashion and to ensure compliance with State, City, and Agency regulations, • Facilitate effective communication among staff, both within the Casework Unit and with other staff members; ensure the timely and accurate transfer of relevant information to administrative staff, such as client admission and/or discharge, and changes in public assistance cases, in order to ensure the smooth functioning of the family and compliance with regulatory agencies, • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned, including serving on-call for a one-week period each quarter, • Assist in transferring clients in and out of the program when required OTHER REQUIREMENTS (including Physical Demands): • May be required to work long hours and a varied schedule, • Traveling throughout various locations in the New York City area, • Lifting and moving objects weighing up to 30 pounds several times a week, • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions EEO Statement – Children’s Rescue Fund is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Job Description Summary: The Senior Case Manager provides direct assistance, either in-person or telephonically, to victims of crime and abuse, specializing in working with survivors of intimate partner and family violence (includes sexual assault and families of homicide victims). The Senior Case Manager will provide services to victims of crime and abuse. Responsibilities: • Learn and integrate a trauma-informed, client-centered approach, using an anti-oppressive lens, into your work with clients., • Conducts client centered safety assessment and risk management planning;, • Provides crisis intervention and direct assistance to victims of crime and abuse; develop creative solutions reflecting clients’ unique needs in collaboration with client, • Advocates for clients for public entitlements with systems and other agencies, where necessary, such as obtaining orders of protection, help with hospital/medical related needs; Office of Victims Services compensation, and relocation assistance;, • Provides information and referrals and facilitates linkages for clients for services such as shelters, mental health treatment, public assistance and other entitlements based on assessment and clients’ needs;, • Assesses for and provides emergency practical assistance for clients including transportation, food vouchers, financial assistance and lock replacement in accordance with agency policy;, • Engages in regular supervision meetings with supervisors to review cases, reflect on client interaction and build skills;, • Maintains thorough and accurate case records and statistics in web-based case management system;, • Collects client data, tests new interventions and tracks outcome;, • Participates in staff meetings, individual and group supervision, community meetings and relevant trainings and seminars;, • Conducts educational presentations and trainings and participates in outreach events for community groups about intimate partner and family violence, victim assistance resources and other related topics;, • Works collaboratively with other Safe Horizon programs to facilitate linkages for clients;, • Safe Horizon staff, • Criminal justice personnel, • District Attorney’s Office, • NYPD, • Office of Victim Services, • ACS, • NYCHA and Section 8 staff Required: • Must be sensitive towards and understanding of victimization;, • Must be able to demonstrate respect, compassion and a non-judgmental approach to victims of crime and abuse;, • Must be willing to participate in a learning community;, • Must be well organized and detail oriented;, • Must demonstrate the ability to work independently and be resourceful;, • Must demonstrate leadership skills (acts as a “go-to” person for colleagues, takes initiative; suggests ways to make processes work better);, • Must be a team player;, • Possess strong communication and organizational skills;, • At least three years of prior direct service experience in a social service setting is required – Or- a minimum of two years of case management experience at Safe Horizon is preferred.
