Job Description EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN JOB DESCRIPTION / (EMT) SUMMARY: The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is responsible for all aspects of patients’ care within the scope of certification. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Accurately completes a pre-inspection and post-inspection sheet prior to and after your tour as per NJ DOH/DOT. Performs a visual inspection of the patient compartment, inside and out, and for cleanliness and damage. Cleans the patient compartment, equipment, and outside of vehicle as needed. Replaces damaged or missing items, noting deficiencies on Usage Report. Presents the signed, dated Vehicle/Equipment Checklist to the Supervisor. Ensures that the ambulance is at all times in compliance with applicable NJ Department of Health Regulations. Directs his/her assistant (EMT) with regard to assistance with patient care and handling, use of emergency warning devices, speed and special driving conditions particular to patient needs. Responds to all calls as directed by Communications in a professional manner and in the time frame assigned. Treats all patients in accordance with NJ Basic Life Support Protocols. Secures patient information and records from the discharge planner or Registered Nurse at the transferring facility. Transports all patients via stretcher. (All psych transports must be on stretcher) Carries all patients to and from the ambulance, NO PATIENTS ARE TO WALK. Carefully monitors all patients during transport.
