Behavioral Assessment Link POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general direction of the Summer Camp Director, the Health Director is responsible for overseeing and reviewing health forms and medical documentation, the health and safety of the campers and staff, administering medication, providing first aid, and communicating injuries and illnesses with parents. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Provide health care to meet individual needs of camp staff and campers., • Collaborate with other staff to meet medical needs., • Follow health care policies/procedures and treatment procedures., • Develop a daily schedule to administer medications to anyone who requires it., • Organize, maintain, and utilize adequate resources for serving the health and medical needs of the campers and staff., • Set up the camp Health center., • Take inventory and communicate with the Camp Director all necessary medical supplies and equipment needed., • Maintain accurate and detailed medical records according to State and American Camp Association Standards., • Ensure staff and camper health forms are current and on file., • Review the medical records of campers and staff prior to the start of the camp season. Contact parents and/or staff for missing or incomplete forms., • Notify the Summer Camp Director in writing of any special circumstances or conditions of campers., • Alert staff to camper health care issues that need monitoring., • Prepare and utilize daily medical log for treatment and medications., • Prepare and record insurance and accident report forms., • Oversee First Aid procedures and supplies., • Prepare and distribute first aid kits through camp including camp vehicles, pavilions, waterfront, activity areas, and out-of-camp trips., • Ensure supplies are well stocked and distributed as needed, • Ensure a staff orientation session is delivered on medical services., • Ensure camp staff and campers know their role related to health care and first aid., • Lead or assist in any training that may be pertinent to a child's special medical condition., • Provide or ensure orientation is provided that includes standing orders, specific camper health and social needs, health center procedures, emergency procedures, growth and development of age groups, staff health assessment of campers, policies on contacting parents, transportation to outside health facilities, accident prevention and risk management, nutrition, and first aid in the camp setting., • Screen all campers and staff who are arriving and departing camp., • Verify health history., • Verify emergency authorization., • Identify any observable evidence of illness or communicable diseases., • Keep all medications used by campers and staff., • Supervise sanitary conditions throughout camp., • Observe daily cleanliness in areas throughout camp., • Report any health problems or symptoms of illness to the Camp Director., • With the Summer Camp Director, inspect the camp for safety and health issues., • Consult with doctor on call and local hospital to review standing orders and to provide appropriate care and emergency service to the Day Camp Program., • Complete accident reports, and contact parents when necessary. Notify Summer Camp Director of recurring or serious issues., • Perform any tasks beyond those assigned as help is needed., • Provide leadership in the camp's risk management program., • Develop a resource file and obtain information and/or literature concerning health in the camp community., • Be responsible for contacting parents concerning the status of their child's health by telephone., • Be knowledgeable of outside health resources., • Evaluate medical services., • Attend and actively participate in staff training and meetings., • Evaluate current season, program and self. Make recommendations for next season., • Assist at assigned bus stop with campers and parents. Serve as bus counselor if needed., • Treat each child and parent with dignity and respect. Show attentiveness to all parent and camper issues., • Familiar with and able to implement emergency procedures., • All other duties as assigned., • Follow employee and volunteer screening requirements and use screening instruments to screen for abuse risk. Provide employees and volunteers with on-going supervision and training related to abuse risk., • Provide employees and volunteers with regular feedback regarding their boundaries with consumers and require them to adhere to policies and procedures related to abuse risk., • Respond quickly to policy and procedure violations using the Y’s disciplinary procedures and respond seriously and confidentially to reports of suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and follow mandated reporting requirements., • Adhere to policies related to boundaries with members, volunteers, staff, and participants., • Attend required Abuse Risk Management training and adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising members and participants., • Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations and follow mandated abuse reporting procedures., • Ensure members, volunteers and vendors are properly signed in and signed out, ensure only authorized employees, members, volunteers, and vendors are allowed in the facility., • Emotional Maturity, • Communication, • 3 years’ nursing experience, preferably in a primary care, internal medicine or school setting., • First Aid and CPR certification, and experience in first aid and emergency management., • MUST have the required certification to be an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Registered Nurse (RN), or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)., • Excellent human relation skills, communication skills, maturity and patience. Ability to originate, update, and/or monitor health care., • Must have a CPR/AED and First Aid Certification OR get certified within 90 days of employment., • Good organizational skills. Must be able to maintain records and implement Health Care Plan., • Experience in both child and adult illness/injury care., • Desire to work with children and young adults., • Community health knowledge., • Valid driver's license and driving record in good standing., • All staff working at an ACA accredited camp is required to have 24 hours of pre-camp training as a condition of employment., • This work requires the following physical activities: climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, reaching, sitting, standing for extended periods of time, walking, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, repetitive motions, talking, feeling, hearing, and visual acuity (with the aid of glasses if necessary). The work is performed primarily outdoors and may require occasional travel. He/she must be able to lift up to 50 lbs., • Ability to lift/assist campers and staff., • Ability to read and follow directions on medication labels, health forms, physician orders, and parent letters, • Maintain written record system., • Ability to quickly get to remote locations on camp property over uneven terrain., • Observe and assess sanitation and safety conditions of the camp., • Ability to communicate with parents, staff, and administration about camper health concerns., • Possess endurance to meet emergency needs HOURLY PAY RATE: $30.00 to $35.00 WORK SCHEDULE: Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm LOCATION: 131 Germantown Rd, West Milford, NJ 07480
