American Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN Med Surg / Telemetry for a travel nursing job in Bakersfield, California. Job Description & Requirements • Specialty: Med Surg / Telemetry, • Discipline: RN, • Start Date: 06/08/2026, • Duration: 16 weeks, • 36 hours per week, • Shift: 12 hours, nights, • Employment Type: Travel Assignment Overview • Shift: Nights, 3x12hrs, • Hours: 36 hrs/wk, • Start Date: Jun 8, 2026, • Length: 16 weeks, • Acute care hospital setting across all Med/Surg Telemetry units, • Blend of charge nurse, clinical mentor, and shift manager responsibilities covering Med/Surg, GYN, oncology, orthopedic/spine, and general surgical patients, • Patient ratios of 1:5 for Med/Surg patients and 1:4 for chemo/tele patients, • Remote telemetry monitoring supported by monitor techs; no ventilator patients, • EMR: Cerner (one orientation shift available if needed), • Night shift, 12-hour shifts, • Every other weekend (EOW) requirement, • First to float to other Med/Surg and Telemetry units within the same health system, • Holiday coverage required: 2 major holidays and 1 minor holiday, • No on-call responsibilities; if placed on standby for low census, must be able to report onsite within 30 minutes, • 16-week contractRequirements, • Active CA RN license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted, • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted, • Minimum 3 years of RN experience required, • Med/Surg Telemetry experience required, • Must have served as a charge RN in most recent assignment, • Strong central line experience required, • A driver's license must be provided for consideration, • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehireAdditional Information, • Provides on-shift leadership to ensure safe, high-quality patient care while rounding on patients, addressing safety and service concerns, and serving as a clinical and interpersonal resource for staff, • Takes charge nurse and patient assignments as needed based on census and staffing levels, • Supports 2 nurse aides per shift (target staffing), • Hospitalist in-house 24/7; RT and pharmacy available 24/7; resource nurse available for IV support; dedicated team for PICC and midline insertions, • Common patient diagnoses include general medical/surgical, GYN, appendectomy, cholecystectomy, spine and joint cases, and oncology patients (including private oncology suites); patients age 15 and older accepted; no acute strokes, acute cardiac, or active drip patients, • Navy scrubs required, • Orientation consists of 3 weeks total: 1 week of classroom training followed by 2 weeks of unit orientation, • Manager interview required, • First-time travelers will not be considered for this position, • Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year; candidates placed PRN through outside firms will be considered With thousands of travel nursing and allied jobs nationwide, our attentive and approachable recruiters find positions that align perfectly with your career aspirations and personal requirements.
