Job Description POSITION SUMMARY The mission of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYC Health Department) and Iris House is to protect and promote the health of all New York City (NYC) residents. Condom distribution as a structural intervention has been proven to increase condom access and use, and prevent HIV, STIs, and unintended pregnancies. The goal of Condom Availability Program is to recruit and maintain a network of nontraditional sites (NTS) – including but not limited to bars, barbershops, hair and nail salons, liquor stores, and other businesses or establishments in their borough’s high priority area ZIP codes. The Community Outreach Worker should be engaging, have great communication skills as they identify sites and build relationships with community businesses. This person willdistribute safer sex products to NTS, provide education on the use and benefits of safer sex products and HIV prevention strategies to during recruitment and to members of priority populations during outreach activities. This person should be able to navigate the NYC public transit system. The Community Outreach Worker will conduct outreach to Black/African American cisgender women and Black and Latino Men, who have sex with Men (MSM), Black and Latino Transgender women people living with HIV/AIDS who are 50 and older. The Community Outreach Worker will report to the Program Coordinator and will assist the Program Director with funder reporting as directed. is in the community identifying sites and engaging community businesses. ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS 1. Identify nontraditional sites (NTS) to recruit and participate in the condom distribution program. The NTS will include but not limited to bars, barbershops, hair and nail salons, liquor stores, and other businesses or establishments in the high priority area ZIP codes in Manhattan., 2. Establish working relationships with non-traditional sites. Educate NTS staff during in-person recruitment, and after recruitment as needed., 3. Distribute safer sex products to non-traditional sites. Track and document all safer sex products. Ensures integrity of data collection and entry for evaluation purposes and participates in continuous quality improvement of the program., 4. Conduct 12 in-person outreach activities (e.g., health fairs, block parties, street intercept) after the start-up period has concluded. 5. Drive mobile for outreach events and some delivery of safer sex products to nontraditional sites, driver’s license mandatory., 6. Conducts HIV, STI and Hepatics C screening and testing, provides access to linkage to care and treatment., 7. Monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures, identifies opportunities for improvement. Ensures senior management is informed of significant issues and conditions that may have an adverse impact on the organization’s operation and goals., 8. Participates in creating and maintaining a workplace that values diversity and is free of racism, sexism, heterosexism and other discriminatory practices., 9. This position is fully in-person, and all services are rendered at our West Side Headquarters and other locations in NYC based on the event locations and outreach sites. OTHER POSITION FUNCTIONS · Prepares clear and concise reports, correspondence, policies, procedures, and other written materials. · Demonstrates teamwork and open communication. · Establishes, maintains, and foster positive and effective relationships with those contracted in the course of work. · Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor. POSITION REQUIREMENTS Education: Associate degree in Human Services or related field or equivalent educational and work experience. Experience: At least 2 years of related experience. Experience delivering prevention/HIV education and HIV testing. Spanish Bilingual preferred. Other Requirements: Knowledge and understanding of HIV/AIDS prevention, Social Determinants of Health, HIV education, support services. Excellent communication skills and outreach planning; Must be proficient in the use of personal computers, Microsoft Excel and documentation.
