Pillar Care provides specialized programs to meet a wide range of educational, therapeutic, and social needs of people with various disabilities. The agency serves over 1,650 families each year and employs 700 full- and part-time employees. ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY: We are seeking a Elementary Resource Room Teacher (Teacher of Students with Disabilities (TOSD) or Teacher of the Handicapped (TOH). Who provides specialized instruction and academic support to elementary students with disabilities in the classroom and resource room setting. Works closely with teachers, therapists, paraprofessionals and families to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) that foster academic, social, and emotional growth. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: • Participate in IEP meetings, parent conferences, and multidisciplinary team meetings to assess each student’s learning needs and to develop appropriate goals and instructional plans., • Design and implement individualized and small-group instruction in reading, writing, mathematics, and other core subjects, aligned with IEP goals and New Jersey Student Learning Standards., • Collaborate with teachers to modify classroom activities, adapt curriculum, and ensure appropriate accommodations and supports for students participating in inclusion settings., • Conduct ongoing formative and summative assessments to monitor progress and adjust instruction accordingly; maintain accurate educational records and prepare written progress reports., • Provide direct instruction in study skills, organization, self-regulation, and social-emotional learning appropriate for elementary-age students., • Implement positive behavior supports and proactive classroom management strategies to create a safe and supportive learning environment., • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress, goals, and behavior; collaborate with related service providers such as speech, occupational, and physical therapists to coordinate instruction and supports., • Integrate therapy recommendations and adaptive strategies into academic instruction to maximize student success and independence., • Supervise and provide direction to paraprofessionals, classroom aides, and volunteers to ensure consistency in instructional support and behavior management., • Create a structured, engaging, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment that encourages curiosity, responsibility, and respect., • Incorporate educational technology, assistive devices, and instructional tools to enhance learning and engagement., • Participate in professional development opportunities and stay current with best practices in special education, instructional methods, and legal compliance under IDEA., • Adhere to all agency and school policies, safety procedures, and confidentiality standards; follow universal precautions and emergency protocols as required., • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Principal or Program Director. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: • Strong understanding of child development and effective instructional strategies for elementary learners with diverse disabilities., • Knowledge of special education laws, IEP development, and progress monitoring requirements., • Ability to differentiate instruction, modify curriculum, and use data to guide decisions., • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with students, staff, and families., • Familiarity with educational technology, adaptive equipment, and multisensory teaching methods., • Ability to establish a positive rapport with young children and maintain a nurturing, structured classroom environment., • Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field., • New Jersey certification as Teacher of Students with Disabilities (TOSD) or Teacher of the Handicapped (TOH)., • Elementary Education certification preferred., • Experience working with elementary students with developmental or learning disabilities preferred., • Experience teaching reading to students with disabilities preferred, • Successful completion of fingerprint examination and approval by the State of New Jersey. To be considered for the role, all applicants must be willing to undergo the terms prior to employment: • Must successfully complete a criminal background check and receive clearance from the Department of Human Services, confirming they are not disqualified, before beginning work with individuals served by the organization., • Must consent to having their name checked against the Central Registry of Offenders Against Individuals with Developmental Disabilities., • Must submit to drug testing prior to their start date., • Required to complete an application for a name check against the Child Abuse Registry Information (CARI).
