Job Description Job Purpose This is a full time athletics coaching position. Candidates must be available evenings and weekends. Coaches are responsible for planning, organizing and delivering and appropriate range of sports activities and mentoring for athletic programs, individuals and teams. The coach is responsible for assisting with organizing and delivering an appropriate range of skill development in sports activities for programs, individuals and teams. This position is responsible for assisting each IDD client population develop their best level of skill, an appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship, and an increased level of self-esteem. The Coach assists the Athletic Coordinator and Head Coach with planning and implementing both intramural and organized sports. Essential Functions • Provide coaching and schedule practices for year-round competitions with JESPY teams as well as teams from other organizations, • Schedule vehicles for use in transporting the various athletic teams., • Submitting Dept. Daily Activity Reports to Foothold, • Teach relevant skills, tactics and techniques to clients, • Identify strengths and weaknesses, • Enforces all rules of the NJ Special Olympics for respective sport., • Enforces discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times, and establishes and oversees penalties for breach of such standards by individual client with Client Code of Conduct in mind, • Ensures that no bullying/hazing occurs in his/her sport, • Establishes performance criteria for participation in intramural and organized competition in his/her sport, • Ensures individual athlete’s eligibility Injury/Safety • Cooperates with the Athletic Coordinator and Head Coach to verify that no participant is issued equipment or allowed to practice until his/her physical examination has been received, • Oversees the safety condition of the facility or area in which assigned sport is conducted at all times that clients are present, • Reports injuries to the Athletic Coordinator through personal communication, as well as completing and submitting incident reports to Coordinator and documenting in electronic system (Foothold Technology)., • Exercises great care in dealing with minor injuries involving simple first aid. In all cases, the coach should assure that the injured athlete receiving competent medical care. Educational Requirements • Signification experience in related field preferred, • Excellent communication skills and ability to foster relationships with people across a spectrum of intellectual and developmental disabilities, • Energetic with ability to match and channel the energy of the athletes, • Ability to promote & encourage involvement in the Athletic Program., • Ability to exercise sound judgment and respond quickly to crises and emergencies; ability to prevent or minimize crises, • Conflict resolution skills, • Excellent computer skills including a working knowledge of MS Word, Excel Position Type/Expected Hours of Work • This is an hourly full time position, • Must be available to coach team sports on the weekends, evenings & availability for an occasional weekend overnight competition., • Valid driving license & ability to drive 15 passenger van is required Special Working Conditions/Physical/Requirements – Working Environment This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. • Must be available for coverage on some weekends and after 5pm when required., • Valid driving license is required, • Must hold a high school diploma, • Valid New Jersey driver's license is required, • Must hold CPR/First Aid Valid Certification, • Successful clearance of NJ background check, • Successful clearance of Drug Screening, • Fulfill the necessary training requirements and is in good standing in order to bill Medicaid for Support and Community Care Waiver (CCW) Services and CDS Physical Demands • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job., • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee may occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
