Job Description CHIEF, COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP & TRAINING INSTITUTE Reports to: Founding Executive Director | Location: New York City About NYC Kids RISE Over the last decade, NYC Kids RISE, alongside partners in government, philanthropy, business, and community, has worked to create the NYC Kids RISE Save for College Program, a universal wealth-building platform for New York City neighborhoods. Today when a child starts kindergarten in New York City Public Schools, they receive an NYC Scholarship Account invested in a 529 Account with an initial investment for their educational futures. More than 380,000 children have NYC Scholarship Accounts and have accumulated more than $85M to date. ~1000 elementary schools are leveraging the Program as a tool for college & career readiness, strengthening school & community ties, and financial education & empowerment in a variety of different ways. Philanthropy, businesses, government, civic associations, houses of worship, and New Yorkers are plugging into the platform to share their social and financial capital and demonstrate to children what is possible by directing money into sets of students’ accounts through Community Scholarships, by integrating the Program into their own operations and activities, and by spreading the word and reinforcing expectations about what is possible for children. At its core, the Program is providing a way for our city to invest in all our children across the five boroughs. We are now at an inflection point. This school year, nearly every child in a New York City public elementary school will have an NYC Scholarship Account. At the same time, New York State has established a new financial education mandate, and the federal government has launched 530A accounts—creating a powerful opportunity to increase the “Capital Stack” of financial and social assets available to children through the NYC Kids RISE platform. Over the next decade, the infrastructure will reach nearly one million students across the five boroughs. We will measure impact not only by reach and assets accumulated, but also by the extent to which communities shape, use, and feel ownership of the platform. The Community Leadership & Training Institute The NYC Kids RISE infrastructure fully realized is a nation-leading neighborhood-based community wealth building model and infrastructure. With a decade of experience under our belts, our collective charge is to further embed the Program into the fabric of New York City and create the conditions so that others - government, civic groups, philanthropy, business, New Yorkers - can further use it as a tool to share and build social and financial capital for all our kids. Today, we see that happening as parents/guardians are working with other parents/guardians to build financial capability, schools are teaching personal finance in the classroom, local businesses like the car dealer in Queens contributing $20 from every car sold to the Accounts of each student at the school up the street, Public Housing Resident Associations spreading the word to their communities to reinforce what’s possible for their children’s educational futures, NYC Public School alumni raising money and showcase college & career journeys to the students who are now sitting in the very seats where they previously sat, and elementary schools leveraging the Program to strengthen school & community ties and family engagement. Our role is to help stakeholders across New York City understand the NYC Kids RISE platform and use it in ways that reflect their priorities, build on their strengths, and support their children. To advance this work at scale, NYC Kids RISE is launching the Community Leadership + Training Institute to: (1) equip partners to introduce and connect families to the platform; (2) enable institutions and stakeholders within neighborhoods to use the platform as a shared tool for collaboration; (3) help communities collectively build assets and reinforce expectations of success for every child; (4) create the infrastructure for stakeholders to convene, learn from one another, and strengthen their collective capacity to advance young people’s economic mobility and opportunity; and (5) identify, codify, and share effective practices that can drive neighborhood- and citywide change and inform the fields of wealth building, community economic development, place-based development, collective impact, and cradle-to-career strategy nationally. The Opportunity NYC Kids RISE seeks a visionary, entrepreneurial, and highly operational leader to build, launch, and grow the Community Leadership + Training Institute. The ideal candidate combines expertise in training and capacity building, collective impact, community organizing, and cross-sector partnership with the discipline to turn an ambitious vision into a durable citywide function. Reporting to and working closely with the Founding Executive Director and leadership team, the Chief will operationalize the Institute’s strategy, offerings, operating model, team, and measures of success. This leader will create a consistent standard of excellence while enabling meaningful local adaptation across New York City’s diverse neighborhoods. They will center community ownership—co-designing with families, educators, young people, and community leaders and treating lived experience and local knowledge as essential expertise. This is a builder role for someone excited to grow and fortify a nascent civic and financial infrastructure across the five boroughs - and willing to move fluidly between strategy, relationship building, facilitation, team leadership, and hands-on execution. Job Description:\n\nJob Title: Head of Program Design\nTeam: Product\nLocation: Hybrid in Atlanta (GA) - preferred, Chicago (IL), New York (NYC), or Newark (NJ)\nEmployment Type: Full-time\nFLSA Classification: Exempt \nStart Date: ASAP\nAbout Braven\nBraven is a national nonprofit that prepares promising college students to secure a strong first opportunity after college graduation through a career-accelerating program.\nWe work with higher education and employer partners to offer a life-changing experience that begins with a semester-long course for college students, followed by support that lasts through graduation. \nTogether, our ambition is to help rebuild the middle class and revitalize the American Dream.\nTo learn more, take a look at Braven’s Jobs Report.\nAbout the Role\nIn order to achieve its ambition of serving 80,000–100,000 Fellows over the next decade, Braven is hiring a Head of Program Design who will own the evolution, quality, and integrity of every program experience Braven puts in front of students, volunteers, and staff, serving as both the lead builder and the person responsible for setting the standards for how those experiences are designed.\nBraven's program is built around a core belief: that students build career readiness by developing the right skills, networks, experiences, and confidence. Everything the Design team builds is in service of that equation. As the leader of the Design team and a member of the Product Leadership Team, you will translate evidence from Braven's research and real-time signals from the field into high-quality, pedagogically sound program assets and learning sequences that can be delivered across dozens of campuses with varying academic lengths (e.g., semester, quarter, summer school, etc.) at scale. \nYou hold the line on adult learning best practices regardless of timeline pressure or competing priorities, and you ensure that every staff member and volunteer who facilitates a Braven program experience understands both what they're teaching and why it's built the way it is. We're also looking for someone with a genuinely entrepreneurial orientation, someone who is deeply curious about how other organizations are solving the college-to-career challenge, and who brings that curiosity back into how Braven evolves its own approach. Critically, this person must be able to hold two things as connected rather than in tension: the commitment to human-centered, pedagogically excellent design and the imperative to simplify and scale. The program has to work for the student sitting in front of it and for the institution delivering it at volume. Seeing those as the same challenge — not competing ones — is a prerequisite for excellence in this role.\nThis role is on the Product team and reports directly to the Chief Product Officer.\nWhat You’ll Do\nBuild, Steward, and Evolve Braven's Program Experience (30%)\n\n Design and evolve the entire program experience continuum, which starts with the Accelerator course and extends to supporting our Fellows for 6 months after graduation.\n Maintain a growing high-quality multi-modal library (in-person, virtual, and on-demand) of program experiences, including workshops, learning modules, facilitated sequences, stand-alone resources, on-demand tools, and event designs that help students build the skills, networks, experiences, and confidence needed to secure strong first opportunities after college.\n Create and pilot new program assets in response to what program staff is observing in the field and/or our higher education partners lift up as a need/interest — when teams flag that students are struggling or that a specific need has emerged, your team builds the response, keeping scale and simplicity front and center.\n Translate findings from Braven's research team into concrete design decisions, ensuring that what the evidence says students need is actually reflected in how every experience is structured, sequenced, and facilitated, partnering with execution teams to ensure the program is delivered as intended\n Maintain and refresh program assets over time by updating content regularly based on stakeholder feedback, student outcome data, and shifts in the college-to-career landscape, including staying up to speed on how the context is shifting with students (e.g., pandemic moment that required more online to a digital learning fatigue moment six years after the pandemic) and/or the labor market (e.g., employers are scaling up dramatically so job acquisition is easier including remote work to labor market is shrinking because of over hiring and now how AI is shaping the realities students face in the job market)\n Keep an eye towards what must be true at scale, adjusting designs over time based on feasibility constraints or new technology realities that have ripple effects into designs.\n Be the consummate learner and consumer of our in-person and digital products, in order to stay proximate to the field as well as on the cutting edge of what is to come\n\nSet and Hold the Standard for Quality and Integrity of Program Experiences (25%)\n\n Define, ensure the execution of, and evolve Braven's standards for high-quality program design, including how experiences are structured, how long they run, how learning is assessed, and how facilitation is approached.\n Ensure all program experiences are grounded in adult learning science, cultural competence (including that of a particular higher education institution), and reflect a deep understanding of Braven's students, predominantly first-generation college students and students from low-income backgrounds, navigating the transition from college to career.\n Stay current on the external field — career readiness research, employer expectations, evolving best practices in adult learning, highly-resourced colleges' career preparation evolutions, digital tools, and bring that knowledge into Braven's design work.\n\nPrepare Staff and Volunteers to Facilitate with Confidence and Fidelity (20%)\n\n Design and deliver ongoing training that equips program staff and volunteers who are on the front lines with students every day to understand Braven’s approach to career readiness topics, and can deliver to students coherent, consistent guidance.\n Design and deliver training on design intent so that facilitators understand why an experience is built the way it is, and can make good judgment calls when they need to adapt in the moment.\n Ensure training and staff enablement are built into each new program from the start, making them a core part of a complete, high-quality experience.\n Lead conversations with staff about what is likely to come next in the programmatic experience's evolution.\n\nLead the Team and Shape Program Strategy (25%)\n\n Lead, develop, and grow a team of designers who are responsible for the full scope of design work across Braven's program experience, from the Accelerator course to post-course support for Fellows, which lasts until six months post graduation.\n Manage the team as well as the team’s mental agility in a way that allows for business as usual, as well as the ability to flex, be nimble, and start to innovate in a manner that meets the moment.\n Serve as a member of Braven's Product Leadership Team, contributing design expertise to cross-functional decisions about what the program should do next, how it should evolve, and what it will take to deliver it at scale.\n Partner with colleagues across Research, Data, Program Delivery, and Operations to ensure design decisions are grounded in evidence, informed by what's happening in the field, and set up to be delivered well.\n Engage directly, including online and ground-based visits with the field to inform perspective.\n Bring a constant eye toward program simplification while regularly asking which design elements are truly essential for student outcomes, where the program has accumulated complexity that doesn't drive value, and how to redesign experiences that are both excellent and more scalable over time.\n Partner across the organization with program delivery teams, operations, and technology to identify where design changes could unlock scale, and help Braven distill the program architecture toward what it truly needs to be as it grows.\n Help scope and grow the Design team as the organization scales toward serving 25,000+ Fellows.\n Serve as a member of the "One Braven" leadership team, contributing to org-wide strategy and stewarding a healthy, high-performing culture for both your immediate team and the broader organization.\n Other duties as assigned.\n\nRequirementsMinimum Requirements\n\n Education: BS/BA\n 10+ years of experience designing clear, engaging, purposeful, and culturally competent learning experiences\n 3+ years of experience managing a team toward outcomes\n\nPreferred Qualifications \n\n Master's degree or other certification in learning design, instructional design, or a related field\n Expert practitioner in human-centered design and adult learning science, with a strong point of view on what makes a learning experience work for adults, especially adults navigating high-stakes career moments\n Demonstrated experience building and maintaining a program or curriculum library that serves multiple delivery teams or contexts. You know how to design for reuse, not just for one-time use\n Experience designing human-centered learning experiences that scale through technology.\n Experience designing training for the people who deliver your programs, not just the content itself, but the facilitation guides, design rationale, and enablement that help others teach it well\n Experience and agility with keeping old, evolving, and piloting new designs all at the same time.\n Exceptional written and verbal communicator who expresses ideas clearly, simply, and with strong design instincts\n Competent in synthesizing multiple data types such as observations, user interviews, research, feedback, and quantitative data to identify root problems and drive design improvements\n Deep alignment with Braven's core values and a belief in Braven's mission, informed by experience working with or for student populations like Braven's Fellows — predominantly people of color from low-income backgrounds\n Proven track record of building and growing high-performing teams, including developing talent at multiple levels and scoping new roles as an organization grows\n Strategic thinker who can hold both the quality of a single experience and the coherence of the full student journey simultaneously, you can zoom in and zoom out\n Skilled at working across teams and influencing without formal authority, you know how to advocate for quality with colleagues who have different mandates and timelines\n Experience contributing to organizational strategy as a senior leader, including cross-functional collaboration at the leadership team level\n\nTechnical Skills\n\n Proficient in learning management systems and content editors (Braven currently uses Canvas and Articulate)\n\nPlease know that no one ever meets 100% of the preferred qualifications. If much of this describes you, we encourage you to apply.\n\nWork Demands\n\n Ability to work in-person in one of these three hub cities of Braven’s: Atlanta (GA), Chicago (IL), Newark (NJ), or New York City (NY), 3 days per week\n Travel 2–3 times per quarter for team convenings, site visits, and organizational gatherings \n\nAdditional Requirements\n\n Authorized to work in the U.S.\n Braven doesn’t offer employment visa sponsorship\n\nApplication & Interview Process\nWhile the interview process may vary slightly, the general process will be:\n\n Phone screen with Talent Team member\n Performance Task\n Interview with Hiring Manager\n Panel Interview with Key Partners\n Reference Checks\n\nBenefitsCompensation and Benefits\nBraven offers competitive base salaries based on the midpoint of the market among not-for-profit organizations of similar size, with opportunities for salary growth over time. We believe in compensating staff members fairly in relation to each other, their qualifications, and their impact on behalf of the organization, and take internal and external equity seriously. Given our commitment to equity, Braven does not negotiate salary offers; instead, each salary offer is determined carefully using external and internal benchmarking.\nStarting salary within the range is determined by role scope and qualifications, with new hires starting at the lower end to allow for growth with performance. The portfolio must be accompanied by a written narrative that analyzes and reflects upon the progress that each student demonstrates. There is no minimum or maximum length for the narrative. Option B: Assessment Data for at least one entire class of students that you have taught. The assessments may be standardized national, state, or city assessments or your own self-created assessments. The assessment data can be provided in any form that you choose (official documents with students’ last names crossed-out, or documents that you create to summarize student assessment performance). The data you provide should ideally show progress over time; as such, it is recommended (though not required) that you provide data for at least two assessments taken at different points in time. The assessment data must be accompanied by a copy of the assessments themselves. If a specific assessment is unavailable, provide a copy of a similar assessment. The assessment data must also be accompanied by a written narrative that provides background on the assessments, explains how the assessments measure student performance, and analyzes the results of your class. There is no minimum or maximum length for the narrative. Option C: Original Curricular Tool of any form that you have personally developed. The requirement here is deliberately open-ended because we are interested in seeing anything that you have developed that you believe has meaningfully supported your students' learning. This may take the form of written materials, a unique instructional methodology, a technological innovation, etc. The curricular tool must also be accompanied by a written narrative that provides background on the tool, how the tool functions, and speaks to the impact of the tool within your classroom. Job Description Building Decarbonization Curriculum Developer and/or Instructor About The Green Launchpad The Green Launchpad is an innovative “think-and-do tank” dedicated to building a more inclusive and effective clean energy workforce ecosystem. We partner with mission-aligned organizations to design and launch strategic initiatives that create pathways to clean energy careers. We run capacity building training programs for the workforce sector to better understand the clean energy sector, and we convene clean energy employers to articulate their workforce needs. As a lean and growing startup, we are nimble, impact-focused, and passionate about our work. The Role A clean energy think-and-do tank, operating as a lean, mission-driven startup, is launching a multi-year training program for the people who make decisions about multifamily buildings across New York City: board members, building owners, property managers, and residents of condos and co-ops. The program teaches people who are not engineers, and who can often spare only a few hours a week, enough knowledge and confidence to guide a decarbonization project from start to finish. The engagement has two tracks, and you can take on one or both. Track A is curriculum development, front-loaded in the build phase with ongoing refresh work throughout. Track B is live instruction and facilitation, ramping up at launch and running steadily across the contract term. The curriculum itself is split into two tiers: a short introductory seminar (roughly one to two hours) focused on practical energy efficiency basics, and a deeper course (roughly twelve to eighteen hours) built around a structured decarbonization planning process, delivered in cohorts of ten to fifteen participants. This is a contractor engagement, scoped by phase with hours agreed in advance. Some evening and occasional weekend availability is required, because the participants are volunteers with day jobs. Anticipated start: Fall 2026 (likely September or October 2026) What This Role Is, and Is Not This role is: A chance to build and deliver training for people who genuinely need it, on a topic that is consequential for New York City's housing stock and climate goals Part curriculum design, part facilitation, part coaching, depending on which track you take on Grounded in real buildings and real decisions, not abstract theory A multi-year engagement with a small, focused team that moves quickly and takes its work seriously Flexible in structure, with the scope of each phase agreed in advance This role is NOT: A full-time staff position (this is an independent contractor engagement) A lecture series for technically sophisticated audiences; your participants are volunteers, not engineers A finished product handed to you to deliver; the curriculum is a living document and instructors are expected to contribute to its improvement A fit if you need a rigid, predictable weekly schedule across the full term Right for someone who wants to stay firmly in their lane between teaching and content; the expectation is that both tracks inform each other Required Experience & Traits Demonstrated experience training or advising non-technical adult audiences on building energy topics, such as board members, building staff, owners, or residents Ability to translate technical content accurately without oversimplifying it or burying people in jargon Conversant across most of the following, and strong in several: NYC building performance and emissions law (including Local Law 97 and benchmarking), multifamily building governance and financing, NYSERDA and Con Edison rebate programs, energy audits, heating and hot water equipment decisions, contractor scoping and procurement, and building decarbonization trade-offs broadly Strong facilitation skills for both virtual and in-person settings, including the ability to hold a room with participants who arrive with very different levels of knowledge For Track A: curriculum design experience, including developing assessments, facilitator guides, and participant materials For Track B: a track record of leading live sessions, webinars, or office hours with real-time Q&A and working sessions Based in or able to travel within the New York City area for in-person sessions Reliable and responsive; cohorts run on a calendar, and participants are giving up their evenings Key ResponsibilitiesCurriculum Development (Track A) Research existing building-focused trainings, toolkits, case studies, and industry reports to build on what already exists rather than duplicate it Develop both the introductory resident curriculum and the modular in-depth course, along with accompanying materials such as workbooks, quizzes, one-pagers, and take-home resource guides Build facilitator guides and instructor notes so the curriculum can be delivered by someone other than its author, and deliver a train-the-trainer course if needed Design a pre/post confidence-and-competency assessment that produces a defensible outcome metric for client reporting, and work with the internal learning team to set up and manage the LMS Instruction and Facilitation (Track B) Deliver live introductory seminars and in-depth cohort sessions, both virtually and in person across New York City Facilitate working sessions where participants apply the material to their own building's actual energy and decarbonization data, functioning as a coach as much as an instructor Field the practical questions that come up in the room: what does this mean for my building, what does it cost, who do I hire, what happens if we do nothing Offer office hours and working sessions to support participants with scenarios specific to their building Curriculum Improvement and Team Coordination Give structured feedback to the curriculum team on what is landing and what is not, so the content improves across cohorts Prepare and review materials in advance of each session, complete pre- and post-assessments yourself to guide learners, and coordinate with the Program Manager and Teaching Assistant on logistics, grading, and attendance Bring ideas for curriculum improvements through the review process before use in a live cohort Compensation $75 to $85 per hour, depending on experience and which track(s) you take on; live instruction and facilitation sits at the upper end of the range Independent contractor engagement, with hours scoped and agreed in advance by phase Preparation time outside classroom hours is compensated as part of the engagement Multi-year term, with extension potential Location: New York City (hybrid — remote with in-person sessions) To Apply: Please send your application to careers@thegreenlaunchpad.com with the subject line: “SME — Curriculum – [Your Name],""SME — Instruction – [Your Name],” or “SME – Curriculum & Instruction – [Your Name]”. Please attach your resume and a cover letter. In the cover letter, tell us which track interests you, what your typical weekly availability looks like, and describe a time you explained something technical to an audience that had no background in it. If you have sample materials or a recording of a session you have led, we would like to see it. What Comes Next: If we identify a fit with the position, we will reach out to you to schedule an interview.
