ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Assists swim instructor in delivery of swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, following YMCA lesson plans accordingly., • Builds effective, authentic relationships with instructor, students, and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA. Encourages parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers., • Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refers students and parents to other programs., • Assists in maintaining class records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports, etc.)., • Attends staff meetings and in-service trainings as scheduled., • Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, best practices, and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures, supporting the associations’ philanthropy efforts. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary., • Position is identified as safety sensitive and subjected to required, random drug testing as scheduled., • Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS: • Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques., • Ability to lift and pull equipment 50 pounds, and to lift a small to average size child., • Ability to stand for long periods of time., • Must be in good physical condition to teach classes., • Must have ability to work inside and outside (i.e. humidity, hot, cold, inclement weather conditions)., • Must have ability to concentrate in a loud environment.
