Job Description Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered. This full-time, contract position as a 1:1 Sign Language Interpreter supports a K-12 student who is Deaf or Hard of Hearing during the academic school year. Located in Atlantic City, NJ, the role requires facilitating munication between the student, peers, teachers, and staff by interpreting spoken English into American Sign Language (ASL) or other munication methods specified in the students Individualized Education Program (IEP). Responsibilities include: • Providing real-time interpretation during classroom instruction, school activities, and other educational settings, • Assisting the student in understanding class content, assignments, and social interactions, • Collaborating with educators and special education staff to ensure acmodations and instructional strategies meet student needs, • Maintaining confidentiality and professionalism in pliance with FERPA and IDEA guidelines, • Participating in IEP meetings and offering insights on munication and access, • Preparing in advance for classroom content to ensure effective interpretation, • Fluency in ASL with a minimum EIPA score of 3.5; RID certification also accepted, • High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelors degree in ASL Interpreting, Deaf Studies, or a related field preferred, • At least one year of experience working with school-aged children in educational settings preferred, • Strong familiarity with Deaf culture and educational needs of students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, • Excellent munication and interpersonal skills Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) retirement plan with pany match, optional elective benefits, professional development opportunities, and a supportive team environment.
