Our strong culture has helped us to remain a mission-driven company as we have scaled, and gives our people a clear, explicit operating framework and the space to focus on delivering real value for our customers. _ The Craft function has seven small, cross-functional engineering teams - each with engineers, an engineering manager, and a product manager, working closely with designers. You'll join one team that owns a product area end-to-end. When we start work, we explore multiple solutions before picking one. You'll write RFCs, build proof-of-concepts, and run experiments to validate approaches. Once we commit to building something, we care about maintainability more than cleverness, observability more than hoping it works, and scalability more than premature optimisation. We ship quality code over hitting arbitrary deadlines. Once something goes live, we refactor the rough edges rather than polish what's already working Right now, we're building card issuing from scratch, going direct on Faster Payments, enabling cross-border payments, and building term deposit accounts. Day to day, this means: writing the reconciliation systems that process millions of FPS transactions, implementing double-entry accounting that tracks card spending and settlements, designing webhook infrastructure with message signing and replay protection, building API versioning that lets us evolve without breaking customers, or creating payment approval workflows that satisfy both user experience and compliance requirements. Success here is about impact beyond your own code: improving how we work, making other engineers more productive, and building systems that our customers (other developers) actually want to use. This looks like: redesigning the transaction reconciliation service to handle 10x throughput before we hit FPS volume limits fixing the root cause of webhook delivery failures so we stop getting paged at 3am building a Bazel rule that cuts build times in half for the whole team writing an RFC that becomes the pattern we use for all event-driven services pairing with another engineer to help them reason through FoundationDB transaction semantics owning card issuing from initial RFC through to processing the first live transaction - making every architecture and implementation decision along the way. The technical decisions on your projects - you'll write the RFCs, choose the architecture, and decide when to extend existing systems versus rebuild them Delivery from customer problem to live feature - you'll work with PMs to shape what gets built, then own getting it into production Setting technical direction - your code reviews, implementation patterns, and architectural choices influence how the wider team builds software Production responsibility - the systems you build are yours to monitor, debug, and improve when issues arise You'll fit well here if you come from one of these backgrounds: Functional programming - you've shipped production Clojure, Elixir, Erlang, Haskell, Scala, or Scheme in a professional setting, or you've built substantial personal projects that demonstrate deep functional programming experience Fintech domain expertise - you've worked in payments, accounts, ledgers, or compliance where you've dealt with money movement, reconciliation, and regulatory requirements Beyond that, you'll need: Strong software fundamentals and distributed systems knowledge - you understand consistency models, idempotency, and the failure modes that actually matter in production Experience working in product-focused, collaborative teams - you've shaped what gets built alongside PMs and designers, not just implemented specs Comfort with startup pace and ambiguity - priorities shift, requirements evolve, and you adapt without needing perfect clarity upfront We are an early stage startup and we're working hard to expand our benefits package. We're planning to add to this list in the future. Remote-first flexibility: Work from anywhere in the UK Time off: 25 days’ holiday, bank holidays and a winter break (we shut down between Christmas and New Year) Share options: Own a part of what we’re building together Work from abroad: Up to 20 days a year Pension: Auto-enrolment into our Penfold scheme Insurance: Private medical with Bupa (including family cover) and life insurance with AIG Wellbeing: 1:1 coaching and therapy session available through Oliva Family leave: Enhanced parental leave with up to 6 months on full pay after two years’ service AI tools: Everyone has a Claude subscription on us and access to other premium tools Your setup: We’ll support you in creating a comfortable and effective WFH environment. As a bank, we’re committed to maintaining the highest standards of security. This means that the successful candidate will need to complete background screening, and our offer will be conditional upon satisfactory review of these checks. This would include verification of right to work, criminal record, credit history, social media and professional reference checks. We move as fast as possible, but it normally takes us about 2-3 weeks to get to know to each other. Step 1: An initial phone call with our Talent Team for us to tell you more about Griffin and learn about your recent experience. Step 2: A task based on what you’ll be doing on a day to day at Griffin. Step 3: Meet your manager to talk through your experience and how that relates to the requirements. Step 4: Meet with peers in your team for a more in-depth technical interview. Step 5: Culture and Founder interview: Learn more about this here. Are we your next move? Who we are Moniepoint Inc. is Africa’s all-in-one financial platform, helping 20 million businesses and individuals access seamless payments, banking, credit, cross-border, and business management tools each month. As Nigeria’s largest merchant acquirer, we power most of the country’s point-of-sale (POS) transactions. Through our subsidiaries, Moniepoint Inc. processes over $250 billion in digital payment transaction value annually. Why United Kingdom The UK is home to our headquarters where more than 70 team members are based. Our London office is located at Sea Containers, just by London Bridge - this is also where a significant number of our most senior leaders sit, which makes it a natural base for a Head of Engineering. So, now we are looking for our Head of Engineering, POS Apps to join us in the UK. About the role More than 6 million businesses run their financial lives through Moniepoint - and the primary way they interact with us every single day is through a POS device. For most of our merchants, that device is their business. It is how they accept payments, how they access credit, and how they track their finances. Everything those devices are capable of, in terms of speed, reliability, and developer quality, flows from the engineering platform this role leads. We are building a dedicated POS Application Platform function: the foundational Kotlin-based engineering layer that sits beneath every POS product at Moniepoint. Think of it as the operating system for our POS engineering organisation - the standards, frameworks, tooling, and architectural backbone that every POS engineer across the business builds on top of. This is not a feature team. It is a platform team in the truest sense, and the Head of Engineering for POS Application Platform is the technical owner of that layer. We currently operate across five POS device types from multiple OEM manufacturers, all running on Android. The engineering challenges here span device governance, developer experience, platform reliability, foundational frameworks, and adoption across a distributed set of POS engineers working in separate product squads. And the scope is growing. We have a UK entity live, a cross-border payments product in market, and a microfinance bank acquisition which just finalized in Kenya. The platform you build will become the foundation for tens of millions of businesses across multiple markets to accept payments, access financial services, and grow. If you have spent your career going deep on POS systems and you want to build the platform that underpins one of Africa's most consequential fintech businesses during its expansion, this is the role. What you'll get to do • Own the technical strategy and architecture for the POS Application Platform, acting as the domain CTO for everything that runs on our POS devices., • Build and govern the four core platform pillars across the organisation: developer experience (tools, libraries, SDKs), platform reliability (observability, uptime, quality standards), foundational frameworks (architecture, coding standards, testing and release pipelines), and squad adoption (driving uptake of platform tooling across all embedded POS engineers)., • Define and enforce engineering standards across all POS device types and OEM manufacturers, ensuring architectural consistency and quality across a heterogeneous device fleet., • Functionally lead POS engineers embedded across Payments, Onboarding, VAS, Savings, and Loans squads - setting the bar for engineering quality and providing the platform layer above all of them., • Own POS observability end-to-end: monitoring, alerting, and incident response frameworks that ensure platform health across all devices and squads., • Drive the architecture for how Moniepoint supports multiple POS device types, including defining how new devices are onboarded, governed, and integrated with the platform., • Collaborate with OEM partners and the POS hardware team when new device types are introduced, ensuring the application layer is ready to support them from day one., • Build and scale the POS platform team, including hiring, mentoring, and structuring for growth as the platform expands internationally., • Translate platform decisions into business impact, working closely with Product, Payments, and Business leadership across markets., • Establish and continuously improve engineering processes, tooling standards, CI/CD pipelines, and developer productivity metrics across the POS engineering community. To succeed in this role, we think you should have • A minimum of 10 years of hands-on software engineering experience, with at least 6 years leading engineering teams through meaningful growth phases, ideally in multi-national or large VC-backed companies., • Direct, hands-on experience building software that runs on Point-of-Sale terminal devices. This means engineering on the device itself — the application layer — not server-side integrations with POS systems. This is a non-negotiable requirement and candidates without it will not be considered., • Strong working knowledge of EMV standards (Europay, Mastercard, Visa) and experience navigating payment certification processes such as PCI DSS and P2PE. Candidates without this will not be considered., • Deep Android engineering expertise in Kotlin and Java. The POS application layer at Moniepoint is Android-based and there are no exceptions to this requirement., • Proven experience building internal engineering platforms, shared libraries, developer tooling, or foundational frameworks used by other engineering teams — not just consumer-facing feature products., • Experience governing or architecting across multiple POS device types from different hardware manufacturers, with an understanding of how OEM integrations and device management work at scale., • Experience building or maturing platform engineering functions, including establishing engineering processes, tooling strategies, and cross-squad governance structures., • Demonstrated ability to scale engineering teams and build the organisational layer beneath you — leaders who can grow into and around the role you are hiring into., • Experience at a company processing high volumes of financial transactions in a regulated environment. Fintech background is strongly preferred., • Familiarity with terminal management systems and device observability tooling is a strong advantage., • Backend engineering experience in Java or Spring Boot is a strong plus given the breadth of the platform and the integration surface it sits on., • Experience working directly with OEM vendors on hardware specification and integration is a bonus., • Exposure to C or C++ is a plus — one of our device variants uses C., • Experience at Series A or B stage startups alone is unlikely to reflect the scale and complexity required for this role. Cultural Alignment We assess every candidate across eight dimensions that define how great leaders operate at Moniepoint. We look for evidence of all eight throughout the process, not just in a single conversation. • Customer Obsession: Build deep empathy for users. Solve problems intuitively, and fix root causes, not just tickets., • Craft: Master the fundamentals. Reason from first principles, make trade-offs explicit, and raise the bar on quality., • Systemisation: Turn repeating decisions into scalable mechanisms. Reduce cognitive load and raise engineering quality., • Urgency: Move with disciplined speed. Act autonomously within scope, remove friction, and escalate risks early., • Ownership: Treat the platform as your own. Take initiative across boundaries and follow through without reminders., • No Ego: Put the mission first. Share credit, welcome debate, and never protect status over team outcomes., • Candour: Surface uncomfortable truths and risks early. Intelligent failure is welcome; concealment is not., • Integrity: Stay truthful and ethically consistent. Refuse toxic behavior. Performance without integrity is unacceptable. Some of the technologies you'll work with • Android (Kotlin, Java) - primary platform for all POS application development, • EMV payment standards and PCI/P2PE certification frameworks, • Multiple POS device types and OEM manufacturers, including Topwise and Telpo, • Terminal management systems and device observability tooling, • Java, Spring Boot — backend services and integration layer, • Docker and Kubernetes, • PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Elasticsearch, • Microservices architecture on AWS What we can offer you • Culture - We put our people first and prioritise the well-being of every team member. We have built a company where all opinions carry weight and where all voices are heard. We value and respect each other and always look out for one another. Above all, we are human., • Learning - We have a learning and development-focused environment with an emphasis on knowledge sharing, training, and regular internal technical talks., • Compensation - You will receive an attractive salary, pension, health insurance, annual bonus, plus other benefits. What to expect in the hiring process • Stage 1: A preliminary phone call with one of our recruiters., • Stage 2: Technical Round focused on core technical strengths and depth in Android/Kotlin, • Stage 3: System Design - You will be asked to solve complex system design problems to assess your technical and architectural skills, with a particular focus on POS and mobile platform architecture and payment systems., • Stage 4: Technical and Architectural Leadership - An interview with one Head of Engineering focused on leadership skills and attributes., • Stage 5: CTO Interview - A conversation with our CTO assessing first-principles thinking, problem-solving under ambiguity, clarity of thought, and cultural alignment. How to apply: Please send us your CV or LinkedIn profile via our career website. Moniepoint is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees and candidates! #LI-Remote

Description African businesses import $700 billion worth of goods and services per year but paying their suppliers abroad remains a massive challenge. Their options today are limited to traditional banks and the black market. Going through banks means poor customer service, high transaction costs and unfavorable exchange rates. Transactions that should take a few days end up taking weeks and cost merchants up to 9% in fees. The situation is equally dire for consumers who pay some of the highest P2P transfer fees in the world and are stuck with mobile money technology that is now decades old. We are building Kappa to fix that. Our cross-border payments platform is designed for ultra low-cost, near-instant money transfer at significantly higher transaction sizes than what’s currently possible. Our mission is to break down the barriers that have held back African businesses for decades. Kappa is looking for a Product Owner to join the team and help scale up our cross-border payments platform in Africa and beyond. Coming in early, you will take full ownership of the product across mobile and web and be end-responsible for delivering value to customers. Part of a globally distributed team spread across Africa, Europe and the Middle East, this role comes with significant autonomy, and offers a chance to help build a massive business that will have a positive impact on millions of lives. Our platform has processed over $1 billion across tens of thousands of transactions for African businesses, but we are just getting started. We have big ambitions as we scale up in existing markets and roll out in new ones, and we are looking for someone with matching ambition to drive that expansion. • You'll take end-to-end ownership of our web and mobile apps — from talking to customers and framing the problem, through the requirements and the design, to what the numbers say in production, • You’ll drive the product roadmap — Decide what we build next (and what we don't), working in close collaboration with sales, operations, and the leadership team, • You’ll work in a tight feedback loop with engineering — Specify the what and the why, leverage a world-class engineering team for the how, and stay close while it gets built, • You’ll spend real time with the people who use our product — Importers and exporters in Africa, from SMEs to multi-nationals, and our sales and operations teams on the ground who talk to them every day, • You’ll design flows for reliability, robustness and scale — You'll spend as much time on what happens when a transaction fails or gets stuck as on the happy path Requirements • 5+ years in product management. Experience with fintech products (payments, lending, banking) is a hard requirement. Plus points for cross-border payments and for building in emerging markets, • Payments fluency — Settlement, reconciliation, chargebacks, RFIs, treasury and liquidity. You treat KYC, AML and licensing as constraints that factor into the design from day one, not as blockers that show up late, • Writing that makes building unambiguous — Problem, customers, success criteria and constraints come before any solution. Two engineers (or coding agents) reading your spec independently would build the same thing, • Design judgment and the ability to act on it — You can say why one screen works better than another in terms of what the customer is looking to achieve. You’re able to produce the flows yourself using AI-driven tooling (e.g. Pen.dev, Claude Design) rather than relying on a designer, • Technical credibility — You can read an API schema or contract, follow an architecture discussion, and know when a requirement you've written is accidentally expensive or comes with hidden complexity. You have a sense for what’s hard vs easy to build., • Range and operating across layers of context — You can give the CEO the two lines that matter and the engineer the edge case that breaks the design, and go deeper when needed Benefits • Highly competitive salary and equity — top of market. Amber is an entirely new way of thinking about buying, banking and selling energy where home energy technology works to put money back in customers’ pockets and accelerate the renewable energy transition. We’re an Australian headquartered company, where we are both an energy technology company and a utility providing energy directly to households and small businesses. In Australia (the world leader on rooftop solar and a 2-way energy grid), we’ve proven that the cheapest, fastest and most rewarding way to reach 100% renewables is to automate the growing wave of home batteries, EVs, and other smart energy devices. Customers get direct access to the real-time electricity prices and the technology to shift energy usage to the times when cheaper renewables are available in the grid and export to the grid at times when the price they can be paid for it is highest. We are a clear market leader in energy automation in Australia, and are now partnering with utilities across Europe to bring our technology to European markets and consumers. We’re at a critical moment in taking the business to scale in Europe. You’ll be joining a rapidly growing regional team of 15, and be part of a global team of over 220, with expertise across energy, technology, marketing, and operations. We’re committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace and a great culture of people who love coming to work to build a better world. We’re backed by leading VCs in Australia and Europe, as well as impact-focused investors and world-leading energy companies. At Amber, we believe that enabling a culture where everyone is set up to do the best work of their lives, and feels connected and supported, is one of the most important things we can do to ensure our long-term success. Want to help improve the environment by shifting the world’s energy usage towards renewables? We are currently hiring for a Full Stack Software Engineer. Amber provides a great opportunity to apply your skills as an Engineer to help enable the uptake of renewable energy. Our technology optimises thousands of batteries and other devices in the customers' homes, enabling them to time their usage to consume power at times of high renewable penetration (and cheap prices), and then export power back to the grid at critical times - letting them outbid energy generators and earn potentially >£50 in an afternoon. The Amber Electric product team develops and supports: • Home automation integrations (to batteries, hot water systems and pool pumps, with EVs coming soon) that control electricity usage in response to pricing and renewable availability, • Mobile & Web apps for customers to monitor and manage their energy usage, • A pricing and billing engine for real time energy pricing The tech stack is React Native mobile app, some React web frontends, and a Serverless Lambda backend on AWS. We’re using Typescript top to bottom, and Apollo GraphQL sits in the middle. We keep our data in DynamoDB, Postgres, and Snowflake, using one or the other as best suits a particular workload. You can learn more about our tech stack at _ While we’re looking for talented and driven individuals our desire is to build a champion team, not a team of champions. We’re full-stack-ish; while it’s impossible for everyone to excel across every layer of the stack we value people who can chip in wherever they’re needed. We’re committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace from the ground up. We want engineers who are as comfortable communicating with people as they are with their code. At Amber, we want to hire self-starters who are eager to learn, and are comfortable working in a changing environment. Some of the key traits we are looking for in this role: • You have a positive mindset: equal parts curious, collaborative, and can-do, • Between 3 and 5 years of commercial development experience in either Web or Mobile environments, • Commercial experience with the specific technologies in our stack is a strong plus, • Experience with languages sharing features with Typescript is also a plus (such as JavaScript, C#, Go, or similar), • We favour generalists who can be flexible across the stack, both frontend and backend, • Strong verbal and written communication skills built on a foundation of empathy for your fellow humans is essential, with English proficiency of C1/C2 level at a minimum, • Additional language skills, particularly in European languages, are a bonus and may support broader team and customer engagement., • Write and maintain high quality program code across the stack in the areas of your specialty, • Flexibly contribute outside your specialty in other areas of the stack supporting your team when they need it, • Work collaboratively with your peers in product and across the wider company to ensure you're always shipping the right thing the right way at the right time, • Research, consult, analyse, and evaluate our system requirements, • Test, debug, diagnose, and correct errors in our tech stack according to our operational specifications, • Support the app across the whole lifecycle from idea through to production, • The role will see you working directly with external clients while collaborating across internal teams, including leadership, product, design, and engineering to deliver impactful solutions., • We’re committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace and a great culture of people who love coming to work to build a better world, • Join a growing technology start-up that will shape the future of household renewable energy use, • You’d be a part of a growing team of over 220 people with expertise across energy, technology, marketing, and operations, • Flexible working hours & remote working - see "How You Work" for more info, • Competitive salary within your local market, • Share options in Amber Electric, • Employment and leave entitlements as per your local country, • An external Employee Assistance Plan for mental health support, • Annual Learning & Development budget to support your personal growth, • Annual company conference in Melbourne, Australia. Between £45,000 and £70,000 base per annum. All roles at Amber include employee stock options. This is a full-time role to be based ideally from the UK/Germany/Netherlands. We do have a co-working space in London where we work flexibly between the office and home. You will be working predominantly remotely within a high-trust environment where transparency and accountability are foundational to our engineering culture. Amber's flexible approach allows you to shape your schedule around core collaboration hours, which are 7am - 12pm Tuesdays and Thursdays London time. This overlap enables meaningful collaboration with your Australian colleagues. Outside these core hours, we trust you to manage your time effectively. We focus on outcomes and impact rather than hours logged, but we do expect consistent communication and reliable delivery on commitments. Regular check-ins and transparent progress updates are part of how we maintain this balance of freedom and responsibility. We value work-life balance and sustainable pace—we don't want team members to overwork or burn out, nor do we expect you to be available 24/7. Instead, we promote clear boundaries and open dialogue about workload and capacity. Our headquarters is located in Melbourne, Australia, with a second co-working office/space in Sydney, Australia. Our European team operates from a central London hub that you will travel to during your onboarding, and approximately every 2 months thereafter for team collaboration. These in-person sessions help strengthen relationships and reinforce our collaborative culture. We also have AmberCon every year, this is a big team calendar event and we will fly you to Melbourne to be there with the rest of the team. We will always cover flights, accommodation and other travel costs as part of our travel policies. If this kind of work gets you excited, we'd love to hear from you! Even if you don’t meet 100% of the requirements listed above, we still encourage you to apply. We're open to all backgrounds and encourage people from underrepresented groups to apply. We never discriminate on the basis of race, religion, colour, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, or disability status. Please include your resume and a cover letter and tell us: • One specific way you could use your technical skills to improve a household's energy use under the Amber model. Our process will generally be as follows: • A screening interview with our talent team, • A take-home technical challenge that should take no longer than four hours, • A follow up interview with two members of the engineering team, • A culture interview with two members of the engineering leadership team We promise to be respectful of your time as an applicant while trying to be as thorough as possible in finding the right fit for our team. Only applicants with full working rights in the UK/Europe region will be considered for the role. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted promptly. All other applicants will also be notified of the outcome as soon as possible. No recruitment agencies please. We are already working with our preferred partners. Thank you! These tools assist our recruitment team but do not replace human judgment. Final hiring decisions are ultimately made by humans. About Codat Codat is an advisory intelligence solution purpose-built for modern commercial banking. Through rich, specialized data, forward-looking insights, and integrated workflows, Codat empowers banking teams to deepen their relationships, grow their revenue, and simplify their day-to-day work. Founded in 2017 and backed by JPMorgan, PayPal, Amex, Plaid, and Shopify, Codat has successfully powered over 350,000 connections to business customers’ financial systems — and is trusted by industry leaders to turn scattered information into actionable, strategic advantages in real time, every time. We're looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join our Data and Insights team. You'll be hands-on every day, writing production code, building and maintaining data pipelines, and shipping features that turn raw data into intelligence our clients can act on. You'll work across the full project lifecycle, from understanding the problem through to delivery, and you'll care as much about code quality and operational reliability as you do about getting things shipped. This is also a technical leadership role. As a senior member of the team, you'll set and lead the technical direction of our Insights platform. This is a visible position within engineering and across the wider business, so you'll explain your thinking clearly, share the reasoning behind it, and bring people with you. You'll do all of this while staying close to the code: it'll suit you if you want to keep building hands-on, rather than move into pure architecture or people management in the near term. Write production code every day, most likely in Python, building and maintaining the data pipelines that power our Insights products. Own the full lifecycle of your projects, from understanding the data domain through to pragmatic design, shipping, and keeping things running reliably in production. Set and lead the technical direction of the Insights platform, and communicate it openly across engineering and the wider business, so product and commercial colleagues understand the choices you are making and why. Help raise engineering standards across the team and improve technical quality through strong engineering practice, including testing, observability, data quality checks, and clean, maintainable code. Make AI your default way of working, and find opportunities to apply it across our products and pipelines where it delivers real value, from research and prototyping through to more operational uses such as agents that help diagnose and fix pipeline issues. Help lay the foundations for our emerging MCP and semantic layer, so our data becomes something both people and AI systems can query and reason over. Strong software engineering fundamentals: you write well-tested, production-ready Python and care about maintainability, observability, and operational excellence. A track record of building data pipelines and production systems from the ground up, rather than mainly configuring managed services or wiring off-the-shelf tools together. You can describe complex logic you've written and the engineering problems you had to solve. Solid experience with modern data engineering tools and patterns, with real depth in several of SQL, Spark, Databricks/Delta Lake, orchestration tools (Dagster, Airflow, Temporal), and dbt. Comfort with modern deployment practices: CI/CD, containerisation (Docker), and cloud-based infrastructure. It's a bonus if you've shaped these for a team, not only worked within them. A product mindset: you want to understand the business domain and use that understanding to shape what gets built, not only how. You're comfortable pushing back or proposing a different approach when your read of the data and the domain calls for it. Strong communication skills: you can explain and build support for your ideas with peers, managers, and non-technical stakeholders, and you're comfortable holding a visible technical position and bringing people with you. AI as a default part of how you work, with evidence of real efficiency gains and creative use beyond code generation, such as research, building domain knowledge, or prototyping. Nice to have: exposure to the building blocks of AI-ready data, such as semantic layers, ontologies, or text-to-SQL, plus any experience applying AI operationally within data platforms or pipelines. This won't be your main focus, but it will help as our platform grows to support an MCP. Please note, this role is remote - UK only and we cannot provide sponsorship for this position. Anyone not based in the UK or that requires sponsorship to work in the UK will not be considered at this time.
