HOUSING SUPPORT WORKER JOB SPECIFICATION We are looking for a motivated, flexible and committed individual to support the people we work with, our customers, to reach their potential and improve their quality of life through aspirational goal setting. You will engage with and empower them to: Identify their strengths as part of our asset-based approach and identify their needs, opportunities, rights and responsibilities Plan what they want to achieve and take appropriate action Take part in activities and opportunities that generate aspiration and confidence You must have a clear understanding of why people become homeless Experience of key working with hard to engage clients. Knowledge of supported living and housing related support. I.E benefit entitlement, how to apply for universal credit. Experience and Knowledge of safeguarding legislation. Experience of working within a supported living environment. Knowledge of basic computer skills with a good standard of English- such as Microsoft office and word. You will act as the link between the people we work with and a range of local authority, community and voluntary sector providers. Support workers play a vital role in supporting people with learning disabilities, autism, physical disabilities, mental health needs, communication difficulties and/or complex health needs to live independently. Support workers provide the physical and emotional support that someone might need to achieve their goals. Every individual that we support has a unique personality, sense of humour, preferences, needs and aspirations. As a support worker, your role is to support people to do the things that matter most to them. The role is focused on supporting people to live their lives as independently as they can, keeping them safe, helping them to make choices, and ensuring that they lead full and rich lives in their community. You will provide care and support to people either in their own homes or within one of our supported living or residential services. The support you give to each person will depend very much on their individual needs and is focussed on doing ‘with people’ not ‘for people’. Your role is to support people to be as independent as they can. As well as day to day support, this will include supporting people with tasks around their home such as cooking and cleaning, going out, taking part in activities and attending college/work or going on holiday. Working as part of a small but caring team, in a set service or locality, you will have a dedicated management team to support you and Precious will equip you with the skills and ongoing mentoring that you need to do your job to the best of your ability. Independent living, with tailored support Our Supported Living Plus services are provided in conjunction with Golden Lane housing. Individual flats and shared spaces balance the opportunity for independent living with space for activities and companionship, to reduce the risk of social isolation. SUPPORT WORKER RESPOSIBILITIES Providing emotional support to individuals and their families. Providing practical support for individuals and their families, such as helping with household tasks, personal care and paperwork. Supporting and monitoring their healthcare needs, including administering medication and temperature checks. Supporting them to pursue hobbies and interests. Supporting the learning of new skills or gaining employment. Teaching life skills, such as budgeting and paying bills. Helping with everyday tasks such as meal preparation, writing a shopping list, going shopping or maintaining their housing tenancy. Helping them to access community facilities and be included in community groups. Understanding their communication needs and adapting your communication to each individual, e.g. sounds, tones, body language. Working with other professionals, such as doctors and therapists, to ensure consistency of support. Analysing an individual’s needs and drawing up a focused support plan.
