Senior Software Engineer – C# / Hardware Integration / High-Precision Systems Hybrid Working | £65,000–£70,000 + Bonus + Share Options Do you enjoy building software that directly drives complex hardware? Do you thrive at the intersection of C#, control systems and real-world engineering? Are you ready to take technical ownership while mentoring others and shaping engineering standards? If so, this could be your next move. Our client is an innovative, technology-driven organisation developing advanced hardware platforms used in cutting-edge scientific and industrial environments. As they continue to expand into new markets and applications, they are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to play a pivotal role in shaping and strengthening their core software systems. This is a rare opportunity to combine hands-on coding excellence with technical leadership in a business where software performance directly influences real-world system capability. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will take ownership of critical software components that power high-precision hardware platforms. Working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, you will help design, develop and evolve robust, secure and scalable applications that interface directly with advanced equipment. You will remain deeply technical while guiding a small, focused team – influencing architecture, development standards and best practice across the full software lifecycle. This is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex problems that span software and hardware boundaries and who wants their work to have tangible, measurable impact. Why This Role is Great Instead of routine delivery work, you’ll have the opportunity to: • Shape system architecture – Contribute to key design decisions and influence how core applications evolve., • Master hardware-software integration – Build and refine control software for sophisticated, high-precision systems., • Own complex engineering challenges – Handle asynchronous events, timing considerations, data flow and system resilience., • Raise engineering standards – Champion CI pipelines, automated testing, secure coding and structured release processes., • Mentor and elevate others – Guide engineers through code reviews, architectural thinking and best practice., • Design with security in mind – Embed application, system and network security principles into deployed hardware environments., • Support global deployments – Contribute to systems that operate in demanding real-world settings. Every project offers the chance to deepen your expertise in C#, hardware control systems and secure application design. About You – What You’ll Get to Work With You may already be a Senior Software Engineer, or perhaps a Software Lead ready for broader technical ownership. In this role, you’ll build on your experience with: • C# and .NET for robust, production-grade applications, • Python for tooling, automation or data handling, • UI design and implementation for control or monitoring systems, • Software that interacts directly with hardware (e.g. motion control, machine vision, device communication), • Secure coding practices and system resilience, • Modern DevOps approaches including CI/CD and automated testing You’ll get to work on systems where reliability, timing accuracy and safe operation truly matter. If you’ve worked on industrial equipment, IoT devices, cloud-connected systems or secure networked applications, your experience will translate well. A degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent practical experience will support your ability to analyse complex technical challenges. Importantly, our client values potential as well as experience. If you bring transferable skills from similarly demanding environments, you are strongly encouraged to apply. What’s on Offer • £65,000–£70,000 salary DOE, • Annual bonus scheme, • Share option scheme, • Hybrid and flexible working arrangements, • Private medical insurance, • Income protection and life assurance, • Enhanced family leave, • Matched pension contributions up to 5%, • 25 days’ holiday plus bank holidays, • Cycle to Work scheme, • Mental health and wellbeing support, • Funded professional development and further study, • Volunteering opportunities Due to the nature of the work, some on-site collaboration will be required to support hands-on system development.
