Key responsibilities of the role are: • Implementing the project requirements to fully meet client specification with relevant standards., • Undertaking any work of a technical nature that falls within ability and competence., • Preparing and checking design approach, calculations drawing and documents., • Carrying out site visits and surveys, inspections and supervise sub-contractors., • Preparing and checking feasibility studies, inspection, assessment, and technical reports ensuring compliance with Amey procedures., • Being confident to work under minimum supervision and check the work of others., • Assisting with the supervision, mentoring and development of team members from Graduate Engineers and Technicians through to Assistant Engineers., • Assisting with contract preparation together with project planning and programming., • Compliance with relevant health, safety, and environmental legislation, particularly CDM regulations., • To work in a team, producing technically sound engineering solutions, • Preparation and checking of designs, calculations, drawings and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy the criteria of quality, cost and programme, • Overseeing the actions of more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks and taking responsibility for their actions, • Liaising with client and supplier representatives at peer level, attending progress meetings, and responding to queries, • Managing a small, locally based single discipline technical team and taking responsibility for delivery of their workload, • Contributing to the preparation of bids and general working winning function, • Drive effective health and safety practices within the team What you will bring to us: • Developed experience and expertise within Structural engineering field, probably gained in an Assistant Engineer role or equivalent, • Bachelors or Masters degree in an appropriate subject or demonstrable equivalent further learning, • Bachelors / Masters degree in Civil / Structural Engineering, • Chartered status (or working towards it) with ICE, IStructE or CIHT other appropriate professional body, • Demonstrable experience in the assessment, design and / or management of bridges, • Excellent understanding of structural behaviour and analysis, • Knowledge of relevant codes and standards such as DMRB and / or Eurocodes, • Enjoys working in a team environment; sharing ideas and collaborating with colleagues., • Proactive approach and commitment to health, safety and welfare. Our Amey Consulting Structures Team are involved in designing some of the largest civil engineering and associated infrastructure projects across Scotland with cumulative values in excess of £1bn. The role Our Chartered Bridges Engineers play an important part within the Design team and alongside our client. As a Lead Engineer you will provide effective support and assistance to your Design Team Leader on a variety of Civil schemes whilst taking the lead on projects and mentoring junior designers. Responsibilities include: • To lead a team to product technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements, • The preparation and checking of designs, calculations, drawings and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy the overarching criteria of quality, cost and programme., • Overseeing the actions of more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks and taking responsibility for their actions, • Responsibility for the commercial success of the projects within their portfolio, controlling budgets and managing the costs associated with the production of deliverables, • Liaising with client and supplier representatives at peer level, attending progress meetings, responding to queries etc., • Significantly contributing to the preparation of bids and the general work winning function, • Drive effective health and safety practices within the team. What you will bring to us: • Developed experience and expertise within the relevant technical field, probably gained in a Senior Engineer role or equivalent, • Able to produce technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements, working unsupervised and supervising more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks, • Experienced in undertaking project related tasks associated with the management of health, safety and welfare, e.g. Amey’s Integrated Management System and the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations, • Capable of acting as day-to-day main engineering contact for a project where required under the terms of the commission, e.g. Contractor’s Responsible Engineer (CRE) for Network Rail schemes, • Knowledge, understanding and experience of design and specification process with ability to advise others (Design Team Leader for appropriate projects). Can check designs to a high standard, • Highly experienced with relevant software and similar analytical tools. Good ability to check work produced by others, • Has a very good understanding of CDM and risk assessment. Substantially experienced in the management and communication of hazards and risks on projects and ensures appropriate risk mitigation and transference has been applied., • Capable of acting as Principal Designer for appropriate projects, • Supervisory and people manager skills.
