The role covers a varied and wide range of private sector housing functions, contributing to the delivery of the Private Sector Housing team services provided to landlords, tenants, agents and owner-occupiers on a day-to-day basis. Our Private Sector Housing team is expanding in preparation for new legislative changes and as a key member of the team, you will use your experience to lead on inspecting and licensing Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs) and investigating complaints of disrepair to improve housing standards in the private sector across the two districts. You should be experienced and competent in assessing housing conditions and be qualified in the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS) and have good knowledge of housing legislation together with an understanding of its practical application. The successful candidate will need to work with other services (including Planning Enforcement and Revenues and Benefits) to pro-actively identify HMO properties and work with owners, landlords and agents to ensure properties comply with the safety standards, HMO management regulations, and are licensed. You will need to provide technical and specialist housing advice and, as part of your role, you will be required to have skills in persuasion, negotiation and influencing to support your work with internal and external customers along with partner organisations. You will also use your excellent written and verbal communication skills to undertake both informal and formal housing enforcement action.
