Blue Arrow are currently recruiting an Environmental Advisor to work for an established, growing business in the Thornton and Leyland area. Job Title: Environmental Advisor Salary: Up to £39,873.90 per annum Hours: 37.5 per week (Monday-Friday, 8:30am-16:30pm) Location: Leyland or Thornton Facility, with regular travel between sites Reimbursement of reasonable business expenses (including mileage at HMRC rates) About the Role We are seeking a highly motivated Environmental Advisor to support our Safety, Health, Environmental & Quality (SHEQ) Manager in driving exceptional standards across environmental management and compliance. This role is ideal for a detail‑focused professional with strong environmental, regulatory, and auditing experience within industrial, waste, manufacturing, or similar environments. You will take a proactive role in implementing environmental best practice, supporting internal audits, managing documentation, and advising operational teams on compliance requirements. Key Responsibilities Environmental Compliance Work in accordance with SHEQ policies and internal procedures. Monitor and report on environmental management activities across the facilities. Lead environmental permit reporting and notifications.Documentation & Quality Update environmental management documents and support staff environmental awareness training. Liaise with regulators and service providers to collate and maintain compliance records. Use internal business systems such as CODA, SharePoint, and EPRAIS.Audits & Inspections Lead environmental audits, produce reports, and manage corrective actions. Support external audits (EA, HSE, BSI, etc.).Projects & Continuous Improvement Contribute to environmental management projects. Lead the Waste Audit Team and support quarterly sampling requirements.Stakeholder Engagement Provide environmental guidance to site teams. Attend business meetings, briefings, and operational sessions.Team Leadership Line-manage a team of Waste Auditors. About You Essential Qualifications & Experience CIWM (WAMITAB) Level 4 (Medium Risk Non-Hazardous Waste Treatment & Transfer). 3-5 years' experience in a similar Environmental Advisor role. Experience working with regulators (EA, HSE, etc.). Strong communication skills and ability to work across multiple teams. Good knowledge of audit processes, environmental reporting, and quality systems.Skills & Attributes Strong organisational and documentation skills. Excellent attention to detail. Ability to problem-solve and manage multiple priorities. Confident communicator with leadership capability. Proficient in Microsoft Office and data management systems.Desirable Project management qualification (e.g., PRINCE2). NEBOSH or IOSH qualifications. Experience with business systems like Mainsaver, TMS, EPRAIS, and CODA. We are currently supporting a large healthcare organisation in the appointment of a Waste Management professional; this individual will be responsible for providing specialist knowledge organisational wide and ensure the delivery of development of a comprehensive waste strategy which is compliant with current related legislation. You will need to have experience and qualifications related to Waste or Environmental Management to fulfil this requirement, whilst this position is interim presently this could lead to a permanent position as they plan to actively recruit for the position in the coming months. Responsibilities include developing and implementing a comprehensive Trust waste and resources strategy and policy with ambitious but deliverable targets, applying waste hierarchy principles, and covering all areas of activity. The post holder will be required to work with key stakeholders both internally and externally to identify, promote and deliver projects to reduce waste at source and minimise use of resources. A good knowledge of waste management within a healthcare or similar environment is essential, as you will play a key role in the developing procedures for the correct segregation, handling and disposal of all waste stream including working with site-based teams, clinical staff, Facilities housekeeping and waste producers to explain and ensure correct procedures are followed. Investigate and promote opportunities to reduce overall cost and environmental impact of waste activities, including better segregation, use of innovative alternative and new technologies for waste disposal, compliant with current legislation. Undertake audits and survey work, and reporting thereof, to meet statutory or internal requirements for waste management throughout the organisation. This to include the annual audits of waste disposal service providers to ensure compliance with the ‘duty of care’ requirements within the Environmental Protection Act 1990, and audits at a site level site and at ward level to ensure compliance with the Hazardous Waste Regulations and HTM 07-01. Ensure that statutory requirements to maintain waste and environmental records for the necessary minimum duration are met. Act as the technical waste specialist responsible for managing and maintaining large complex waste data returns and monitoring databases used on all trust sites in relation to waste services. Ideal Candidate/Background • Educated to Degree level or equivalent professional qualification or experience in a Waste or Environmental Management related subject., • Knowledge of NHS waste guidance (HTM 07-01), UK waste legislation (both hazardous and non-hazardous) and NHS policies and procedures (i.e. Infection Prevention & Control and Health & Safety)., • Experience of delivering training on waste to a wide-ranging audience from board level management briefings to staff level 'toolbox talks'., • Significant experience of waste management in a large organisation, • Experience of site-wide, multidepartment, waste auditing, including policy compliance and compositional analysis.
