HGV Workshop ManagerLocation: Taunton, SomersetContract: Permanent, Full Time, 42 hours per weekSalary: £50,000 base + Overtime rates + Company Van + BenefitsOur client is a well-established, drainage and wastewater services company operating across the South West. Working with local water authorities and major construction clients the business plays a key role in maintaining essential infrastructure. With a large and growing fleet of specialist vehicles, they place a strong emphasis on safety, compliance, and operational excellence. They are now looking to appoint a key individual to lead their workshop function.We are recruiting for an experienced HGV Workshop Manager to take ownership of a sizeable mixed fleet including specialist tankers, alongside a fleet of HGVs and vans. This is a hands-on leadership role where you will have direct line management of a HGV fitter, who you will work closely with as well as being responsible for all aspects of fleet maintenance, compliance, and workshop management.If you are a qualified HGV technician with tanker maintenance experience and the confidence to lead a small team in a busy, compliance-driven environment, this could be the ideal next step in your career.About the roleManage and carry out the maintenance and repair of a mixed fleet of specialist vehicles including tankers, HGVs and company vansPlan and execute all servicing, MOT preparation, inspections, and defect rectification to ensure full DVSA complianceLead reactive repairs to minimise vehicle downtime and maintain operation availabilityOversee and manage one HGV Fitter, ensuring consistent standards and workshop performanceMaintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, part usage, and compliance documentationLiaise daily with the Transport Manager and Operations Manager to prioritise workload based on operational needManager parts ordering, stock control, tooling, and workshop housekeepingCoordinate a rotating shift pattern to ensure full availability during hours of operationRespond to vehicle breakdowns as requiredAssist with LOLER and PAT inspections when requiredEnsure full compliance with transport legislation, company policies, and SHEQ requirementsAbout YouA recognised qualification in HGV maintenance (NVQ Level 2/3, City & Guilds, or equivalent) or demonstrable time-served experience in a similar roleIRTEC accreditation, this is a firm requirement to lead tanker maintenance confidentlyProven experience working on tanker vehicles, with jetting, vacuum, or similar specialist equipmentClass 2 (C) HGV License with a clean driving recordMinimum of 2 years experience in a similar HGV Technician or Workshop Manager roleStrong diagnostic and mechanical skillsExcellent understanding of compliance requirements and record-keepingAbility to prioritise workload effectively in a fast-paced operational settingStrong communication skills and collaborative approachRight to work in the UKMust be willing to undergo DBS and drug/alcohol screening before commencement of roleWhats Great About This Role£50,000 base salary with overtime paid at time and a halfGreat opportunity for an experienced Technician to step up into a managerial roleCompany van provided for breakdown callouts, no need to use your own vehicleRotating shift structure offering variety and work-life balanceA stable, established employer with a strong operational team around youTraining and career development opportunitiesIf you are an experienced HGV Technician or Workshop Manager with tanker experience we would love to hear from you.
