This is a full-time on-site role for a PLC/Automation Engineer, based in Wirral. The PLC Automation Engineer is responsible for designing, programming, testing, and commissioning industrial control systems. This role focuses on developing reliable automation solutions using PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, and associated instrumentation to improve process performance, safety, and efficiency. Role Description • Design, develop, and maintain PLC programs for industrial automation systems, • Configure and program HMIs, SCADA systems, and industrial communication networks, • Develop control system architectures and electrical control schematics, • Perform system integration, testing, and on-site commissioning, • Troubleshoot and resolve automation, instrumentation, and electrical control issues, • Modify and optimize existing automation systems to improve performance I/O lists Logic diagrams Test procedures Operation manuals • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and process engineers on multidisciplinary projects, • Support maintenance teams with diagnostics and training, • Ensure compliance with safety standards and industrial regulations, • Participate in FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing) and SAT (Site Acceptance Testing), • Possible occasional requirement for Harbour and Sea trials attendance. Experience with motion control, robotics, or drives (VFDs/servos) Knowledge of functional safety systems (SIL, safety PLCs) Familiarity with industrial networking and cybersecurity. Project management experience preferable.
