Job Title: Clerk of Works (Mechanical) Location: HM Naval Base, Portsmouth (HMNBP) Service Area: Asset Management Hours of Work: 37 Per week Salary: £40,000 - £50,000 What You’ll be doing: Join Us as a Clerk of Works (Mechanical) and play a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing the mechanical integrity of a diverse and historic estate at HMNB Portsmouth. This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on mechanical professional with experience across commercial, industrial or residential buildings. • Expertise in water, HVAC, ventilation, heating or gas systems to oversee high‑quality workmanship and ensure our varied portfolio of buildings performs at its best., • Compliance and quality assurance within the KBS Design Team., • Expertise and coordinates the clerk of works team resources for the development of quality and compliance programmes for project. This includes, • early participation in project design development;, • guidance on commissioning requirements;, • on-site inspections;, • and testing and witnessing throughout a project all the way to handover., • Conducting other commissioning/witnessing related activities and assisting clerk of works (commissioning) team members when required, the Clerk of Works (Mechanical) will also be responsible for Inspection, Test and Assurance Plans (ITA’s)., • Management and monitoring of clerk of works activities via an on-line Project Management tool (PMO) – Keystone is critical to the role, along with direct co-ordination of all witnessing, commissioning, and inspection requirements to ensure they are planned for, carried out, recorded and completed prior to project handover. What you will bring: Knowledge of Building systems including HVAC, gas, steam, fresh water, sewage, Combined Heat and Power Plants, Low Temperature Hot Water, Building Management Systems (BMS) and general mechanical plant. Workshop systems knowledge including Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV), workshop machinery, plant and lifting machinery, High / Low Pressure Air systems will be hugely beneficial, along with Utility distribution systems, including steam, gas and water networks. With an ONC/HNC (or NVQ’s) in civil engineering or construction management, you’ll also have a Clerk of Works qualification or relevant experience (desirable), be able to showcase the ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings and specifications with experience leaning towards building regulations, approved documents and British standards for electrical systems, and relevant regulations including PUWER, LOLER, PSSR, F-gas, Legionella, DSEAR, MoD Joint Service Publications (JSP’s) etc. About you: As the post of Clerk of Works (Mechanical) requires a lot of stakeholder interaction, experience of dealing with M&E contractors on site and at management level would be hugely beneficial, along with heightened inter-personal skills to really drive home influence and rapport building. You’ll also be confident in your own ability, be able to show respect and tolerance to others, and be an excellent planner to ensure an organised approach.
