Building Services Engineer Location: Portsmouth or Stevenage Rate: £40 per hour (Umbrella) Contract: 12 months initially Hours: 35 per week (4.5‑day week) Security: SC Clearance (BPSS+) About the Role We’re looking for an experienced Building Services & Fabric Clerk of Works to carry out inspections, quality checks, and compliance oversight across Mechanical, Electrical, and Fabric installations on a range of high‑profile projects. You’ll act as the technical eyes and ears on site — ensuring every installation meets the highest standards of quality, safety, and design compliance. Key Responsibilities • Conduct regular inspections of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire systems, controls, structure, and building fabric, • Ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, Building Regulations, H&S legislation and industry best practice., • Identify, document, and support the resolution of defects and non‑conformances., • Maintain clear daily records, photos, logs, and produce weekly/monthly reports, • Verify materials and workmanship against required standards., • Attend site and technical meetings, providing professional technical input., • Ensure all handover documentation (O&M manuals, as‑builts, Safety Files, commissioning records) is accurate and complete. What We’re Looking For Essential • Experience as a Clerk of Works, Site Inspector, or similar building services quality‑focused role., • Strong knowledge across Mechanical, Electrical, and Building Services systems., • Experience in construction site management and quality control., • Ability to read/interpret engineering and architectural drawings., • Excellent communication and report‑writing skills., • Competent using Google OS, AutoCAD, and relevant software., • Organised, proactive, diplomatic, and able to work independently., • Full UK driving licence., • HNC/HND, Degree, or City & Guilds in Building Services, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Construction, or similar field Desirable • Membership of ICWCI., • NEBOSH or similar H&S qualifications Why Apply? • £40 per hour umbrella – strong contract rate., • 12‑month initial contract with potential extension., • Secure, stable environment requiring SC‑level clearance., • Technically varied role covering all aspects of M&E and fabric., • Excellent work‑life balance with a 4.5‑day week., • Make a meaningful impact ensuring high‑quality, compliant, safe installations.
