Operating out of Kings County Criminal Court, Brooklyn Justice Initiatives is a team of social service providers, court-based resource coordinators, and others who seek to improve the quality of justice. By providing meaningful pre-trial supervised release and post-conviction sentencing options, Brooklyn Justice Initiatives seeks to use an arrest as a window of opportunity to change the direction of a participant’s life and avoid the harmful effects of incarceration. Brooklyn Justice Initiatives is seeking a Compliance Specialist. Reporting to the Compliance Manager, the Compliance Specialist will implement and execute strategies to ensure accurate compliance tracking and reporting for the Supervised Release team at BJI. The Compliance Specialist will also assist all Brooklyn Justice Initiatives with compliance concerns, audits, and data collection and entry. Operating out of Richmond County Criminal Court and community-based offices, SIJC is a team of social service providers, court-based resource coordinators, mental health practitioners, compliance specialists, and others who seek to improve the quality of justice. Supervised Release offers an alternative to jail by providing pretrial supervision, case management, and voluntary social services to people charged with misdemeanor and felony offenses, and in so doing, uses an arrest as a window of opportunity to change the direction of a participant’s life, avoiding the harmful effects of incarceration. Program participants are monitored to ensure their appearance at court dates and mandatory programming, and receive referrals to services like job training, drug treatment, and mental health counseling. SIJC seeks Case Managers for the borough’s Supervised Release Program (SRP). Reporting to Supervising Case Managers, Case Managers are the front line of service delivery and key to ensuring that the program meets its mandate. By providing meaningful pre-trial supervised release and post-conviction sentencing options, Brooklyn Justice Initiatives seeks to use an arrest as a window of opportunity to change the direction of a participant’s life and avoid the harmful effects of incarceration. Brooklyn Supervised Release (BKSR) is seeking to welcome a new Night Court Liaison to the team who will report to a Supervising Court Liaison. As a Night Court Liaison, you will coordinate with court stakeholders to ensure the successful release of program participants to the Brooklyn SRP. The Court Liaison will review all available court-related information about each participant released under supervision to complete the necessary paperwork. Job Description The Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law is a nonpartisan law and policy institute that seeks to improve the systems of democracy and justice in the United States. Position Overview: The Justice Program seeks a talented attorney to join a cutting-edge interdisciplinary team working to create a fair and equitable criminal justice system that champions evidence-based reforms to protect both individual rights and public safety. Reporting to a Justice Program Director, the attorney will help us build a research and policy agenda to achieve smarter policing and sentencing policies, more humane prison conditions, and supportive reentry programs. The Counsel will help the justice team build out state advocacy to improve the justice system, with a focus on prison reform, and in assisting the Program in researching and drafting reports, briefs, and other public facing work. The Counsel will also provide legal support to advance the Center’s advocacy efforts at the state, local, and federal levels. Finally, the counsel will provide research and advocacy support to Law Enforcement Leaders to Reduce Crime & Incarceration (“LEL”), a project of the Justice Program. LEL is a nonpartisan national coalition of nearly 200 current and former police chiefs, sheriffs, federal and state chief prosecutors, attorneys general, and corrections officials from across the country who are committed to supporting practical, tested policies that reduce unnecessary incarceration, improve fairness, and protect public safety. Note: This position is based at our headquarters in New York City. Occasional travel to our Washington, D.C. office and to other locations for conferences and meetings will be required. Responsibilities: • Assist the team to support state legislation across the country to improve the justice system, with a specific focus on improving prisons, • Assist staff members in researching, developing, and co-authoring reports and policy proposals and for a wide variety of audiences – legal, legislative, media, and public, • Help senior staff generate new project ideas by researching and drafting concept papers, funding proposals, and other written work (including articles, opinion pieces, speeches, and organizational materials), • Conduct research at the direction of mid-level and senior attorneys., • Manage development and implementation of projects, as assigned, • Take on special projects and other duties as assigned, • Conduct research for and draft white papers, talking points, public statements, articles, and other materials to support the LEL project, • Help staff and manage working group projects focusing on specific timely topics related to law enforcement and justice, including identifying relevant topics and experts, • Monitor legislation, hearings, and other developments in relevant issue areas, • Provide research support for meetings with current or former law enforcement officials, advocacy group leaders as well as committee testimony, Hill briefings and other public events, and high-level meetings Qualifications: • J.D. required. This is a mid-level position open to applicants who are a few years out of law school, including recent judicial law clerks and others with 3-4 years of work experience post-law school. Job Description MS NOW is looking for a video podcast editor to join our team. This role will work across the unit to support multiple projects and ensure high technical standards by editing tape across a variety of video platforms (from longform horizonal podcasts to “Reels-style” vertical videos), audio mixing, and filming. This role starts early in the production process: helping to set up the tech for remote and in-person interviews, troubleshoot connection and technical problems, and positioning talent and guests to ensure the highest quality recording. This person will also ingest audio and video files, plus prepare edit sessions for the team of producers. In the final stages of the process, it is this person’s responsibility to ensure podcasts are beautifully cut and delivered to spec. The video podcast editor should be extremely detail-oriented, while also knowing how to work fast. It’s essential to have a mastery of advanced video and engineering techniques and be comfortable troubleshooting when something goes wrong. The ideal candidate will also be comfortable collaborating with our audio engineer on pieces, as the majority of MS NOW’s podcasts live on both audio-first and video-first platforms. An interest in news and politics is vital to the success of this role, as is knowledge of journalistic best practices. The video engineer will report to the Senior Production Manager and collaborate daily with producers and other team members.
