Operating out of Kings County Criminal Court and community-based offices, BJI is a team of social service providers, court-based resource coordinators, mental health practitioners, compliance specialists, and others who seek to improve the quality of justice. Supervised Release offers an alternative to jail by providing pretrial supervision, case management, and voluntary social services to people charged with misdemeanor and felony offenses, and in doing so, uses an arrest as a window of opportunity to change the direction of a participant’s life, avoiding the harmful effects of incarceration. Program participants are monitored to ensure their appearance at court dates and mandatory programming, and receive referrals to services like job training, drug treatment, and mental health counseling. BJI seeks a Participant Engagement Specialist for the borough’s Supervised Release Program (SRP), which provides supervision, case management, and social service connection to thousands of court-mandated participants each year. Reporting to the Case Management Coordinator, the Participant Engagement Specialist will leverage interpersonal and data-management skills to support participants’ successful engagement with the program. The Participant Engagement Specialist will provide outreach to program participants who missed program orientation, intake, and those who have been disengaged for 21 days or more. Additionally, this role will effectively communicate and collaborate with intake, case management, and compliance teams to ensure accurate court reporting and continued program engagement. Job Summary: The NYC Family Justice Centers (FJCs) are an initiative of the Mayor’s Office to End Domestic and Gender-Based Violence to reduce barriers faced by survivors of domestic and gender-based violence (GBV). GBV can include intimate partner and family violence, elder abuse, sexual assault, stalking, and human trafficking. The NYC Family Justice Centers are co‐located multidisciplinary service centers providing vital social services, civil legal, and criminal justice assistance for survivors of domestic and gender-based violence and their children—all under one roof. Arab American Family Support Center is co-located at the FJCs and partners with the Mayor’s Office, the District Attorney’s Office, and other civil legal and community-based organizations to provide a safe and welcoming place for victims to receive various services. AAFSCNY staff at the FJC provides crisis intervention, case management services, advocacy, information and referrals, and practical assistance to survivors, providing client-centered safety assessments and risk management plans. Clients will be greeted by the Front-Line Advocates at the Reception Desk in the Hospitality Suite. The Front-Line Advocates will check clients in for a scheduled appointment or briefly assess a walk-in client’s initial reason for the visit, help determine the appropriate next steps and monitor the Hospitality Suite and waiting areas to ensure that client needs in the front of the FJC’s are being met. The Housing Specialist will work closely with the Clinical Director to build and maintain relationships with and have knowledge of local housing providers to complete housing referrals and help ensure case management staff are knowledgeable about housing providers and opportunities by facilitating in-house information sessions. Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) is an evidence-based practice that provides an integrated set of other evidence-based treatment, rehabilitation, case management, and support services delivered by a mobile, multi-disciplinary mental health treatment team to support recipient recovery through a highly individualized approach that provides recipients with the tools to obtain and maintain housing, employment, relationships and relief from symptoms and medication side effects. The Substance Use Specialist is a Master level mental health clinician who outreaches clients in the community to provide treatment and services with high fidelity to the ACT model. The Substance Use Specialist provides psychoeducation and support for clients’ substance use treatment needs, including but not limited to: coordination of detox or rehab referrals, assessment of clients’ current substance use and stages of change, advocacy with service providers to ensure clients receive clinically appropriate substance use treatment.
