Job Description Broadview at Purchase College GENERAL SUMMARY: A unique opportunity exists to join a team in creating a vibrant senior learning community on the campus of Purchase College, State University of New York. The residents of this university-based retirement community will be able to enjoy the many amenities of the college including the renowned Neuberger Museum of Art, the Performing Arts Center, the academic and athletic facilities, and the park-like campus. Position Summary The Health and Safety Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for all residents, visitors, and staff and protecting Community property. The shift is Sundays 3pm to 11pm. EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: • Minimum 5 years’ experience in experienced in security, • High school diploma/GED, • Must possess a current, clear and valid driver’s license., • The ability to speak, read, write and comprehend the English language., • CPR certified CDL License Preferred Requirements: • EMT certified. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: • Performs checks on fire extinguishers, sprinkler systems, emergency lights and exit lights., • Testing security and fire alarm systems., • Background in law enforcement., • Makes scheduled rounds both inside and outside the buildings to maintain a secure environment for residents and their property as well as company property., • Responds to all fire alarms and apartment emergency calls., • Develops and maintains a good working rapport with residents, family members, visitors, and personnel to assure that security procedures meet the needs of the facility., • Assists with special health and safety needs as they arise involving employees, visitors, and other members of the community., • Provides a written report of any community incident during the shift that to the Director of Plant operations and other administration may need to be aware of., • Maintains entrances in facility for safe passage at all times. Shovels and keeps clear exit door walkways during and after snowstorms., • Accomplishes all work in the order of priority set by supervisor. Performs specific work duties and responsibilities assigned by supervisor., • Reports all incidents/accidents immediately. Reports all unsafe/hazardous conditions equipment immediately. Assures that established safety regulations are followed at all times. Recognizes unsafe conditions and takes action or reports conditions to supervisor. GENERAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 2. May assist the Executive Director in performing administrative functions, handling resident inquiries and conducting building tours., 4. Observe and abide by all regulations to ensure that personal health information is protected during its collection, use, disclosure, storage, and destruction within the community; and to ensure only the minimum necessary information is known to function in this position., 5. Assure resident safety., 6. Follow written and oral directions., 7. Maintain confidentiality of resident and community information., 8. Assist new employees in following established community policies and procedures., 9. Complete assignments timely, completely, and accurately., 10. Attend all in-services as assigned or requested., 11. Participate in interdisciplinary team and other community meetings as assigned or requested., 12. Consistently work cooperatively with residents, co-workers, physicians, families, consultant personnel and other ancillary service providers., 13. Observe all community safety policies and procedures., 14. Is observant of safety hazards and emergency situations, and reports to appropriate person or takes corrective action according to established procedures., 15. Come to work in a clean, neat uniform and consistently present an appropriate professional appearance., 16. Come to work as scheduled and consistently demonstrate dependability and punctuality, complies with attendance policy., 17. Assume accountability for data contained in the Employee Handbook., 18. Assumes accountability for compliance with Federal, State, and other regulations within scope of control and of which informed., 19. Observe infection control procedures., 20. Follow Residents’ Rights policies at all times., 21. Observe all community policies and procedures., 22. Accept assigned duties, instructions or correction in a cooperative manner, voicing concerns or disagreement in a professional manner through established chain of authority according to state procedures. PHSYICAL REQUIREMENTS: Physical activities of the position: • Lifts and carries up to 50 lbs. with assistance occasionally, • Pushes and pulls up to 50 lbs. with assistance occasionally, • Climbs, reaches, bends and twists occasionally, • Reaches, bends and twists occasionally, • Sits, stands and walks frequently Physical requirements of the job: • Light work – exerts up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects. ENVIRONMENTAL/OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURES: This list is not to be inclusive, rather exemplary of times of environmental/occupational exposures involved in performance of job functions. • Individual must be able to use protective equipment and take proper precautions and emergency measures., • Position is considered at minimal risk of exposure to infections through close contract with residents; minimal hazards associated with chemicals used for general cleaning and disinfecting throughout the community; and some craft materials/supplies.
