Job DescriptionJob Title: Senior Construction Project Engineer – Remediation (NYCDPR Red Hook Project) Job Description This role oversees remediation-focused construction activities on a major public-sector project at the Red Hook site. You will manage project documentation, support inspections, coordinate with contractors and the construction management team, and ensure safe and compliant remediation and hazardous material removal. This position offers the opportunity to work on a high-profile project, gain valuable experience with a public agency, and contribute to the successful delivery of a complex environmental and construction initiative. Responsibilities • Manage Requests for Information (RFIs), including tracking, coordination, and timely resolution with relevant stakeholders., • Support time and material tracking for contractors, ensuring accurate documentation and alignment with project budgets and contracts., • Coordinate and participate in site inspections, including taking photographs and maintaining thorough visual records of construction and remediation activities., • Prepare, draft, and update meeting agendas and meeting minutes, capturing key decisions, action items, and follow-ups for project teams., • Assist with payment processing and documentation, including assembling payment packages for contractors in accordance with city requirements., • Develop and maintain a comprehensive calculation (calc) book to document engineering assumptions, calculations, and design decisions for remediation activities., • Oversee and support remediation work, ensuring that contaminated and hazardous materials are removed safely, effectively, and in compliance with applicable regulations and project specifications., • Coordinate and monitor activities related to contaminated and hazardous material removal, working closely with field personnel and contractors to maintain safety and quality standards., • Ensure familiarity with and oversight of air monitoring activities associated with remediation and hazardous material removal, helping to verify compliance with environmental and health standards., • Incorporate Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPP) requirements into field activities, ensuring that construction and remediation operations align with environmental protection measures., • Collaborate with the construction management (CM) team and public agency representatives on-site at Red Hook to align project execution with agency expectations and project milestones., • Support project progress reporting by contributing to status updates, documentation, and coordination of project deliverables as the project advances from its current 40–50% completion., • Use tools such as Excel and other project management software to track project data, maintain logs, and support reporting and analysis., • Apply engineering judgment and professional expertise in remediation to identify risks, propose solutions, and support decision-making throughout the project lifecycle. Essential Skills • 8+ years of experience in engineering with a strong specialization in remediation work., • Hands-on experience in construction or construction management, particularly on remediation or environmental projects., • Professional Engineer (PE) background or experience working in a professional engineering capacity., • Experience with contaminated and hazardous material removal on construction or remediation projects., • Familiarity with air monitoring practices and requirements related to remediation and hazardous material handling., • Experience developing and maintaining a calculation (calc) book for engineering projects., • Proficiency with Excel for tracking project data, documentation, and reporting., • background in project engineering, including coordination with contractors and project stakeholders., • Ability to manage RFIs, time and material documentation, and payment packages for contractors., • Strong written communication skills for drafting meeting agendas, preparing meeting minutes, and maintaining clear project records., • Knowledge of Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPP) concepts and their application to construction and remediation activities. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Prior experience working on projects with the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation (NYCDPR) is highly beneficial., • Experience working on large public-sector or municipal infrastructure projects., • Previous involvement in remediation projects at active construction sites., • Familiarity with city documentation and payment processes for contractor services., • Ability to collaborate effectively with a construction management team and public agency representatives., • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for managing documentation, calc books, and project records., • Interest in long-term career growth on complex infrastructure and environmental projects. Work Environment This role is 100 percent on-site at the NYCDPR Red Hook Project, where the overall project is currently at approximately 40–50% completion. You will work closely with the construction management team and public agency representatives in a dynamic field and office environment, supporting active construction and remediation activities. The position offers a comprehensive benefits package once converted to direct employment, including 20 days of paid time off and 9 paid holidays. There is an initial contract-to-hire period of approximately six months, during which you will receive one week of vacation. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Yonkers, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $70.00/hr.
