Job Description Title: Maintenance Agency/Program: Barrier Free Living Apartments Status: Non-Exempt, Full Time Hours Per Week: 35 Salary: $20.00 Hourly Supervisor: Superintendent Start Date: TBD Benefits Package: 100% Employer paid Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Matched Retirement Plan, Paid vacation, Sick days, Personal days, Paid National Holidays, and more. Travel: Five days on-site per week and as needed. About Barrier Free Living (BFL) Barrier Free Living (BFL) is dedicated to helping New Yorkers with disabilities live independently in the community. Through its various programs, BFL provides a broad range of residential and nonresidential services to disabled survivors of domestic violence, transitional shelter to the disabled homeless, and outreach to physically disabled individuals with mental health and/or chemical addiction issues. Services include case management; housing placements; independent living skills training; occupational therapy; short and long-term individual counseling; advocacy within the medical, mental health, child welfare, law enforcement, and criminal justice systems; and referrals to outside services. About Barrier Free Living Apartments UPDATE Role Summary The Maintenance Worker is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness, safety, and overall upkeep of Barrier Free Living Apartments, a supportive housing facility serving domestic violence survivors and individuals with disabilities. This role involves performing routine maintenance, repairs, and inspections, as well as maintaining common areas, exterior grounds, and service spaces to ensure they are clean, well-maintained, and presentable at all times. The Maintenance Worker plays a critical role in fostering a welcoming, hygienic, and dignified environment for residents, staff, and visitors. Responsibilities * Respond promptly to maintenance requests from tenants, ensuring safe and timely resolution. * Perform minor repairs or coordinate with contractors for specialized work. * Clean and sanitize building common areas including lobbies, hallways, stairwells, elevators, laundry rooms, and offices * Sweep, mop, vacuum, and disinfect floors; remove trash and recyclables from common areas and designated collection points * Empty the compactor machine daily, ensuring the compactor room remains clean * Sort recyclables and put out trash on collection days in their designated locations * Maintain cleanliness of outdoor areas, including front entrances, sidewalks, ramps, and courtyard areas * Perform routine cleaning and disinfecting of high-touch surfaces and restrooms in accordance with health and safety protocols * Monitor building supply inventory and notify supervisor when supplies are low or equipment needs repair * Assist with snow removal, salting, and general weather-related maintenance as needed * Strip, wax and buff corridors and lobbies. * Set up and break down spaces for meetings or community events as directed * Report maintenance needs or safety concerns promptly to supervisor * Skilled in using hand trucks, dollies, and other equipment facilitate the movement of items within the building(s) * Respond appropriately to tenants, ensuring all work is done in a trauma-informed manner * Support staff in maintaining a trauma-informed, respectful, and resident-centered environment * Assist with unit turnovers by cleaning and preparing apartments for new tenants * Respond to urgent clean-up needs in a timely and professional manner. * Attend staff meetings and training sessions as directed by supervisors.
