Job Description Job Title: Substance Use Specialist Job Summary: CASES is a New York City agency at the forefront of the intersection between behavioral health and the criminal legal system. Our mission is to increase public safety by reducing incarceration, improving behavioral health outcomes, and promoting recovery and community stability. CASES is seeking credentialed Substance Use Specialists to support adolescents and adults with substance use disorders, serious mental illness, and criminal legal system involvement. These positions are available across our offices in New York, Brooklyn, and the Bronx. Substance Use Specialists are key members of multidisciplinary teams and provide comprehensive assessment, counseling, relapse prevention, crisis intervention, and care coordination services in both office-based and community settings. Candidates may be considered for placement based on experience, program needs, and location preference. Salary: $57,000 – $63,654 per year, depending on program assignment Shift Hours: Full-time, Monday – Friday from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM Location Address: Positions are based in one of the following offices: • 2090 Adam Clayton Powell Jr Blvd, New York, NY 10027, • 25 Chapel St, Brooklyn, NY 11201, • 424 East 147th Street, Bronx, NY 10455 Workplace Flexibility: Workplace flexibility varies by program. Community-based roles require regular field work and in-person participant contact. What You Will Be Doing: • Conduct comprehensive substance use assessments, including SBIRT and stage-of-change evaluations, • Develop person-centered, trauma-informed treatment plans, • Provide individual, group, and family counseling as appropriate, • Deliver relapse prevention, psychoeducation, and harm reduction interventions, • Utilize evidence-based modalities including Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), • Facilitate substance use and relapse prevention groups, • Provide crisis intervention and support participants with urgent substance use needs, • Coordinate detoxification, inpatient, outpatient, MAT, and rehabilitation referrals, • Advocate with community providers to ensure clinically appropriate treatment access, • Dispense Naloxone kits as an approved NYS distributor, • Collaborate with psychiatrists, nurses, case managers, court stakeholders, and external providers, • For community-based/ACT programs: provide the majority of services in the field and participate in daily interdisciplinary team meetings, • Maintain timely and accurate documentation in compliance with OMH, DOHMH, Medicaid, and agency standards, • Participate in supervision, case conferences, and ongoing professional development, • Deliver culturally competent, anti-racist, gender-responsive, trauma-informed, and recovery-oriented services What We Are Looking For: • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, or related field, • Active CASAC certification in good standing required, • Minimum 18 months to 2 years of experience providing substance use services to individuals with serious mental illness, co-occurring disorders, and/or criminal legal system involvement, • Individuals with lived experience and prior involvement in the criminal legal system are encouraged to apply, • Experience conducting clinical assessments and facilitating groups, • Strong documentation and case management skills, • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team, • Proficiency with electronic case record systems, • Highly organized and self-motivated Preferred Skills: • Fluency in Spanish Employee Benefits: CASES cares about employee wellbeing, and we offer a comprehensive benefits package to support you and your family, including: • Medical, • Dental, • Vision, • Vacation and Paid Time Off – starting at 25 days, • 12 Paid Holidays per year, • Retirement 403(b) Competitive matching up to 6%, • Employee Referral Program Our Values At CASES, we like to move with PURPOSE, which reflects our values: PEOPLE| Hold people’s stories with dignity UNITY| Commit to a shared mission RESPECT| Celebrate the strength of diversity PROGRESS| Always work to improve OPTIMIZE| Make the best use of resources SOLUTIONS| Work together to solve problems EMPATHY| Seek to understand others Although we would love to learn about the skills of every candidate, only selected candidates that are selected will receive a response.
