Job DescriptionJob Title: Commercial HVAC Lead Service Technician Job Description This senior, fully hands-on field role focuses on leading complex commercial HVAC installations, start-ups, controls integration, and service work across an active project portfolio. You will independently install, troubleshoot, commission, and service a wide range of commercial HVAC systems while coordinating closely with field crews and communicating clearly with clients and project stakeholders. The position suits a strong problem-solver with deep controls and interlocking expertise who takes pride in delivering systems that operate correctly the first time. Responsibilities • Take ownership of complex commercial HVAC installations, start-ups, controls integration, and service work across multiple active projects., • Independently install, troubleshoot, commission, and service commercial HVAC systems, ensuring all equipment operates safely and efficiently., • Integrate and interlock HVAC controls and electrical systems, including wiring, testing, and verifying proper operation of all components., • Review and interpret mechanical, electrical, and controls drawings, schematics, and submittals to plan and execute work accurately., • Lead field coordination by meeting with foremen and crews to walk through upcoming work and explain how to prepare systems for start-up, testing, and final inspections., • Provide clear technical guidance to field teams to ensure systems are installed and prepared correctly for commissioning and inspections., • Communicate clearly and professionally with General Contractors, Project Managers, Owners, and Architects to discuss system status, issues, and solutions., • Diagnose and resolve complex HVAC, electrical, and controls issues using advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving skills., • Produce detailed, accurate, and well-organized service and start-up reports that document work performed, findings, and recommendations., • Ensure compliance with applicable safety standards and site safety requirements, using OSHA and NYC safety training in daily work., • Represent the company with professionalism, technical expertise, and clear communication on every jobsite., • Support training and mentoring of junior technicians when needed, sharing best practices and promoting high-quality workmanship.Essential Skills, • Minimum 10 years of hands-on commercial HVAC experience, including at least 4 years in a lead or senior technician role., • Proven expertise installing and commissioning WSHP (water source heat pumps), VRF systems, RTUs (roof top units), and DOAS (dedicated outdoor air systems)., • Strong electrical and controls background with the ability to wire, troubleshoot, and interlock HVAC equipment independently., • Solid working knowledge of VFDs (variable frequency drives), VAV boxes, CO2, temperature, and pressure sensors, time clocks, relays, transformers, and refrigerant leak detection systems., • Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, and controls drawings, schematics, and submittals accurately., • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for complex HVAC and controls issues., • Strong written communication skills with the ability to produce clean, clear, and well-organized service and start-up reports., • Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to engage professionally with clients, general contractors, architects, and owners., • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record., • EPA Section 608 Universal Certification., • NYC FDNY G-60 Gas Qualification for refrigerant systems., • NYC FDNY F-60 Fire Safety certification for refrigerant systems., • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety certification., • NYC Site Safety Training (SST) Card.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience with building management systems and building automation systems such as Automated Logic, Siemens, Honeywell, Tridium/Niagara, and similar platforms., • Manufacturer-specific training on major HVAC equipment brands such as Daikin, Mitsubishi, LG, Trane, Carrier, AAON, and comparable manufacturers., • Experience working on commercial projects in New York City., • Bilingual ability in English and Spanish or English and Russian is a plus., • Experience training and mentoring junior technicians, including providing guidance on best practices and safety.Why Work Here? Work Environment This is a field-based role focused on commercial job sites, where you will work hands-on with WSHP, VRF, RTU, and DOAS systems as well as controls, sensors, VFDs, and related electrical components. You will regularly coordinate with field foremen and crews, walking projects in advance to plan start-ups, testing, and final inspections. The environment involves close interaction with General Contractors, Project Managers, Owners, and Architects, requiring professional communication and thorough documentation. Work follows OSHA and NYC safety standards, and you will use your NYC Site Safety Training and certifications daily to maintain a safe jobsite. Hours align with typical commercial construction and service schedules, with time spent both on active rooftops and mechanical rooms as well as in client-facing discussions and report writing. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Brooklyn, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $65.00/hr.
