FIELD VERIFICATION SUPPORT STAFF - SUSTAINABILITY / CIVIL / COMMISSIONING SERVICES Ettinger Engineering Associates (EEA), a premier MEP/FP/LV, civil, sustainability, commissioning, and field verification engineering firm based in midtown Manhattan, is seeking a Field Verification Inspector to support sustainability, energy, envelope, commissioning, civil-site, and construction verification work across New York City projects. This role is ideal for candidates with hands-on field experience, strong construction awareness, and interest in high-performance buildings, energy-code compliance, Passive House, ENERGY STAR Multifamily, civil-site inspections, SWPPP / erosion and sediment control, backflow prevention, commissioning support, functional testing, equipment verification, and related field verification services. The right candidate may come from a background in field inspections, HERS / RESNET, Passive House verification, commissioning, TAB support, MEP systems verification, civil/site work, sustainability consulting, architecture, engineering design, construction administration, or contractor-side QA/QC. Key Responsibilities • Perform field verification visits for sustainability, energy, envelope, commissioning, civil-site, and construction compliance-related scopes., • Support ENERGY STAR Multifamily New Construction field verification, including checklist documentation, site observations, and coordination with project teams., • Support Passive House field verification, envelope observations, air-sealing reviews, open wall inspections, and performance testing coordination., • Perform or assist with blower door testing, compartmentalization testing, duct leakage / duct blaster testing, and related building performance verification., • Support commissioning and functional performance verification efforts, including equipment installation checks, pre-functional checklists, functional performance testing, controls verification, and issue tracking., • Assist with field verification of HVAC, domestic hot water, ventilation, lighting controls, pumps, fans, heat pumps, ERVs/HRVs, terminal units, sensors, meters, and other building systems., • Support review of TAB reports, startup documentation, O&M materials, equipment submittals, and commissioning-related closeout documentation., • Help document commissioning issues, deficiencies, corrective actions, retesting results, and project closeout status., • Perform civil-site inspections and documentation, including SWPPP-related erosion and sediment control observations, site drainage conditions, construction-phase civil compliance, and field reporting., • Support inspections and documentation related to backflow prevention device installation, legalization, and coordination with applicable approval processes., • Conduct site visits to document construction progress, deficiencies, corrective actions, and field conditions., • Coordinate with project teams, including contractors, architects, engineers, owners, developers, sustainability consultants, commissioning providers, TAB contractors, controls contractors, and MEP trades., • Prepare clear field reports, checklists, photo logs, deficiency reports, commissioning issue logs, and follow-up documentation., • Support EEA’s broader field verification, sustainability consulting, commissioning, civil design, and special inspection teams as needed. Minimum Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree, associate degree, trade background, or equivalent practical experience in engineering, architecture, construction management, building science, sustainability, commissioning, civil/site work, MEP systems, or related fields., • 2+ years of experience in construction field work, inspections, commissioning, energy verification, civil-site inspections, sustainability consulting, design/construction coordination, MEP systems verification, or related technical work., • Strong understanding of construction practices and ability to read drawings, specifications, details, equipment schedules, and field conditions., • Familiarity with MEP systems, HVAC equipment, ventilation systems, domestic hot water systems, lighting controls, or building controls is preferred., • Strong written communication skills and ability to prepare clear field reports, checklists, issue logs, and closeout documentation., • Ability to work independently in the field and manage multiple project assignments., • Willingness to travel to project sites throughout New York City., • Authorization to work in the United States. Additional Experience Considered a Plus • Design experience in MEP, civil, architectural, envelope, or building systems., • Sustainability consulting experience., • Civil department / civil-site design experience., • Commissioning design-review, field-testing, or closeout experience., • Experience reviewing drawings, specifications, submittals, RFIs, TAB reports, controls sequences, commissioning checklists, or field conditions from a design-side perspective., • Familiarity with NYC DOB, HPD, HCR, NYSERDA, ENERGY STAR, Passive House, commissioning, energy-code, or other high-performance building programs., • Familiarity with multifamily residential construction in New York City., • Experience with field reporting platforms, photo documentation, checklists, issue logs, and construction administration workflows., • Ability to support or grow into NYC Special Inspection, TR8, energy-code, envelope inspection, or commissioning work.
