Job Description Dean of Culture Organizational Background: Bridge Prep is a unique, mission driven public charter elementary school on Staten Island. We are dedicated to providing a student-centered educational option for our students, many of whom have dyslexia or other language-based reading difficulties. At Bridge Prep, we ensure that our students gain the skills and confidence to meet their full academic potential. Our innovative and rigorous student-centered environment develops our students into confident, creative, life-long learners. Our academic offerings are rooted in our commitment to the Science of Reading and multisensory instruction approaches which provide all students with an experience focused on academic and personal growth through targeted support. All our staff members share the same belief that all students can learn, regardless of their differing learning styles or academic ability, if they are provided with the necessary and appropriate learning environment. Essential Functions The Dean of Culture will work to ensure that a diverse, inclusive, and thriving school culture is integrated throughout every aspect of the school community, inside the classroom and out: • Builds a joyful, rigorous, and safe school culture., • Ensures that traditions and rituals that support the school mission are built and maintained., • Supports the Assistant Principal of Operations in fostering consistency in behavioral expectations through the implementation of behavior management systems and schoolwide incentive programs., • Supports the Principal and Assistant Principal of Operations in reviewing and editing the Student and Family Handbook, specifically related to the Code of Conduct and schoolwide policies and procedures., • Enforces the guidelines outlined in the Student and Family Handbook, and manages the implementation of the Code of Conduct and related family communication in collaboration with the Family Coordinator., • Maintains and monitors safety on campus by being accessible and visible in hallways and classrooms and during arrival and dismissal of students, lunch, recess, Morning Meeting, etc., • Develops and implements ongoing professional development opportunities for all community members, including staff, students, families, and the Board of Trustees, and establishes protocols and systems for the school that foster inclusivity, diversity, and equity in alignment with the school’s mission., • Analyzes schoolwide data to identify schoolwide trends, designs responsive interventions, and gauges the climate of inclusivity in the school community. Qualifications: • Bachelor's Degree, with an advanced degree preferred, • Deep commitment to and alignment with the educational philosophy and core beliefs of Bridge Prep, • Commitment to working with diverse populations and engagement in equity and inclusion work, • A high level of ownership over the overall outcomes of the students and staff they support, • Passionate commitment to improve the minds, characters, and lives of students, • Ability to think strategically and innovatively, in order to continuously improve school culture, • Excellent interpersonal and communication (both oral and written) skills, • Ability to work well in a busy and complex school environment A successful candidate will: • Maintain a demonstrated passion for Bridge Prep’s mission, vision and core values., • Commit to developing a strong track record of building positive relationships across various stakeholder groups, demonstrating a value towards diversity and inclusivity., • Maintain a steadfast belief that all students can achieve at the highest academic levels., • Exhibit cultural competencies to work in a diverse school community and a willingness to examine own biases across lines of sameness and difference., • Maintain professionalism through excellent organizational skills, timeliness, regular communication, and meeting deadlines., • Be self-reflective and open to feedback, with the ambition and desire to grow one's practice., • Have an entrepreneurial spirit, embracing the opportunity for creativity and hard work.
