Job Description JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: RESIDENTIAL AIDE FLSA: NON-EXEMPT DIVISION: SERVICES REPORTS TO: PROGRAM DIRECTOR /DIRECTOR OF SOCIAL SERVICES LOCATION: QUEENS, NEW YORK SALARY: $18 SUMMARY: The Residential Aide assists with the client's basic needs. The individual will work in conjunction with the social services team to monitor and provide appropriate basic services for families with children in a homeless shelter. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Complete intakes for new clients and provide orientation to the facility and DHS rules and regulations., • Serve meals and snacks to clients during meal times, • Perform regular area inspections to ensure that shelter rules are adhered too, • Monitor sitting areas, laundry rooms and cafeteria to ensure all clients are adhering to shelter rules, • Maintain a clean and organized storage area, • Document and track locks for all lockers, • Maintain lock log, • Assist with intakes, • Assist clients with securing property within assigned locker, • Store and remove client property from the client storage/locker area as appropriate, • Relocate items and furniture as necessary, • Assist security team as needed, • Cover operations desk when necessary, • Maintain required documentation in case records in writing and computer database (CARES) and update client’s records in accordance with governmental and agency policy., • Collect and make copies of client identification and other documents necessary during initial intake., • Assist clients in daily living skills and assist with cleaning area, laundry, hygiene and etc., • Launder and fold all agency towels, wash cloths and shelter linens after clients have left the facility., • Follow laundry schedule to ensure that all used linens are washed and stored as appropriate., • Attend and participate in all required agency meetings: staff meetings, house meetings, in-service training and weekly/bi-weekly case review, • Perform regular inspections of all client areas, • Respond to incidents as appropriate, • Answer phones when necessary, • Assist with all house operations, • Assist with maintenance duties as needed, • Review logbooks at start of each shift to ensure that all new client intakes are completed within 24 hours as required., • Perform all/other duties as directed by management. EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: High School Diploma or GED required. Associates Degree preferred. Food Handlers Certification required. 1-year experience dealing with homeless or special needs population. Excellent communication skills. Job Description Job Type: Shift Supervisor FSLA Classification: Non-Exempt Reports to: Director of Program Operations Location: Far Rockaway, Queens, NY Hourly Range: $27.47 - $30.21 Objective: Lantern Community Services is seeking a dedicated and motivated Shift Supervisor for a new Men's Mental Health Homeless Shelter in Far Rockaway, Queens NY. Shift Supervisors are responsible for a variety of specialized assignments in a homeless shelter; in addition, experience in site management and staff supervision is needed as well as previous experience in working with clients with mental health issues. The shift supervisor will report to the Director of Program Operations. Shift Supervisors will oversee designated operations of the shelter, supervising a team of Residential Aides and working in coordination with Social Services, Maintenance and Security Staff. Essential Functions: • Oversee all shelter operational tasks during operating hours including bed signing procedures, supply issuance, meal rosters, property storage, locker inspections, daily dorm inspections, facility logbook, incident submission, etc., • Supervise a team of Residential Aides to ensure safe and efficient provision of services to all clients and staff., • Ensure all clients have timely access to client services (meals, laundry, toiletries, medications, etc.), • Lead subordinates in Safe Crisis Management techniques and other crisis management models., • Ensure appropriate document processing of new and returning clients, (i.e., submit to DHS for approval and bed assignment), • Oversee bed sign-ins, curfew checks and vacancy reporting in CARES., • Work collaboratively with Maintenance, Security, Vendors and Emergency Responders on site., • Monitor video surveillance cameras, and fire prevention / detection alarm notification system., • Complete assigned paperwork responsibilities (i.e., Log, incident reports, DHS reports and all other reports), • Assist Facility Manager, preparing and executing fire drills (as well as fires) or in other cases., • High School Diploma, GED, or HSE is required, • 3 years shelter experience as an RA, CM, etc. with 1 year of supervisory experience, • Possession of a valid Food Handler’s License, or the ability to obtain one within six (6) months of hire, is required., • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team to complete complex projects in a fast-paced environment., • Must be capable and comfortable with crisis management., • Computer proficiency with proficiency in Word, Excel and the ability to learn new technologies and databases., • F-80 Fire Safety Coordinator certification, required (or ability to obtain F 80 certification), • NYC Food Handlers Certificate or ability to obtain in 2 months., • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred., • Exhibit empathy towards the serviced population., • Must have excellent interpersonal communication skills (oral & written), • Preferred CPR/First Aid Certification Work Environment: This job operates in a shelter environment and works with a population who may experience mental illness, substance use, disability, HIV/AIDS, and other chronic illnesses.
