Job DescriptionSalary: $18 - $22 per hour SUBJECT: General Housekeeper/Janitor (May be delegated to Clinical Staff) JOB SUMMARY: Performs general housekeeping activities in the Surgery Center and Administrative Offices. These duties may be delegated to a contract service. JOB RELATIONSHIPS: Responsible to: Purchasing Manager / Facilities /Charge Nurse/Administrator ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following: • Dispose of all trash., • Prepare clean basin or receptacle of germicidal solution each day/evening with clean cloth., • Make sure all linen and trash hampers have appropriate plastic bags attached., • Cleans floor with clean mop head and clean germicidal solution., • Clean all sinks and all faucet outlets with germicidal solution., • Empties trash., • Cleans sinks, toilets and floors with germicidal solution., • Cleans hallway outside of red line area last., • Replenishes bathroom supplies., • Replace light bulbs., • Cleans lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, and stairways., • Sweeps, scrubs, waxes, and polishes floor., • Vacuums and cleans rugs, carpets, and upholstered furniture., • Dusts furniture. Washes walls, ceiling, and woodwork. Washes windows, door panels, and sills., • Empties wastebaskets., • Performs other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or Nurse Administrator to support patient care and operational needs. General Housekeeper/Janitor INFECTION CONTROL CATEGORY: This job is designated as a Category II job using the OSHA definitions. General housekeepers are not expected to be involved with the clinical area. This means there are no tasks that involve exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: • High school graduate or equivalent., • One year as housekeeper in a hospital setting preferably with operating room experience. LANGUAGE SKILLS: • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos., • Ability to write simple correspondence., • Ability to effectively present information in one on one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's., • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance. REASONING ABILITY: • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions., • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
