The Comprehensive Afterschool System (COMPASS) of NYC program serves young people enrolled in grades K-5. SONYC, which stands for Schools Out NYC, is the COMPASS middle school model that serves as a pathway to success for youth in 6th, 7th and 8th grades. Structured like clubs, the model offers youth choice in how they spend their time; provides rigorous instruction in sports, arts and youth leadership. NYC becomes the classroom through trips and opportunities for instruction beyond the traditional facilities. Programs are offered 5 days per week during the school year. Services are also offered during the summer months. This specific outreach operates under the SQPA umbrella through use of its facilities, programming and thought leaders. Position Overview We are seeking a dedicated Group Leader to support students (grades K-8) in homework assistance, academic instruction, and enrichment activities. In this role, youll work with small student groups in core subjectsEnglish Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studiesand assist with physical education, visual arts, and performing arts activities. Key Responsibilities Provides general supervision of students during program operating times and ensures that the participants are always safe; Keep all activities, equipment, and facilities clean, sanitized, safe, and in working order. SUMMARY New York Edge is seeking passionate and enthusiastic people to fill the role of Basketball Specialist. Basketball Specialists should have knowledge and experience providing targeted, skill, and age-appropriate instruction, coaching, and mentorship to youth in New York Edge’s after-school camp program. WORK SCHEDULE * 9-15 hours per week. * Monday through Friday -- 2:30 pm - 5:30 pm ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS * Motivate students to be active daily. * Ensure daily activity lesson plans and projects are structured, age-appropriate, and have clear learning goals based on the provided sports and physical activity guide. * Maintain communication with the Program Director and Center for Sports and Wellness regarding the calendar of programs, leagues, tournaments, and special events. * Motivate and encourage students to participate in organization-wide sports activities. * Establish and enforce safety rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible. * Instruct participants on the activities' principles, techniques, and safety procedures and show how to use materials and equipment properly. * Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students. * Prepare facilities for group activities. * Evaluate activities to determine if they are producing the desired results. * Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' needs and interests. * Promote and ensure the progressive development of student skills * Promotes positive character development in all youth * Most New York Edge Basketball Specialists are expected to provide support during Academic hours. * Adapt each activity to ensure safe participation in the space provided.
