Position Overview Supervised by the Assistant Principal of Student Services at the network, the Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP) provides services for students with speech, language, and hearing impairments, helping students to adjust and access the general education curriculum. The SLP collaborates with teachers to support high impact language intervention and evaluations. Successful NSLPs consistently help students achieve - collecting, analyzing, and implementing data-based strategies regularly for both the students on their caseload and also students that have been identified as needing additional support. The SLP is in current possession of ASHA Certification and New York State license for Speech-Language Pathology. This position requires a positive, flexible, solutions-oriented, organized, and innovative specialist. Core Competencies & Responsibilities • Provide evidence-based speech and language therapy to students, implementing both pull-out and push-in models based on individualized education plans (IEPs) and best practices, • Develop and implement engaging therapy activities and materials aligned with students' goals, • Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment for students with speech and language needs, enhancing access to general education and supporting progress toward individual goals, • Collaborate with teachers, learning specialists, and other service providers to integrate speech and language goals into the general curriculum, • Draft IEP reports in preparation for meetings and attend IEP meetings as needed, • Provide guidance and support to teachers and staff in assisting students with speech and language needs, • Maintain regular communication with families, keeping them informed of progress and providing guidance on supporting their child at home, • Conduct speech and language screenings for students as needed, • Offer support to students of various ages and linguistic backgrounds, addressing needs through a Response to Intervention-tiered model, • Participate in MTSS and IEP meetings, provide guided reading instruction, and collaborate with contracted therapists, • Coach and provide consultation for fellow speech-language therapists, including writing annual IEP reports and conducting interim assessments, • Provide consultation and professional development for general education teachers and administrators, • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of assessments, progress notes, and therapy plans, • Report progress toward IEP goals three times per year (Goalbooks), • Complete treatment notes and progress reports promptly according to school policy, • Manage a detailed log of services provided and missed due to student or therapist absences, • Document all aspects of work with students in SESIS IEP according to school and state guidelines, • Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited school of speech language pathology, • ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence, • Current NY license as a Speech-Language Pathologist, • Two years of related experience, preferably with elementary/middle school aged children, • Excellent time management skills, flexibility, and ability to work independently and problem solve, • Effective communication skills and an ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team, • Commitment to meeting the needs of a diverse student population, • Comprehensive Professional Development: More than 225 hours annually, featuring two weeks of onboarding, coaching, and targeted training sessions to ensure staff excel in their roles and flourish., • Community and Culture: An intentionally joyful workplace with over 30 bonding events each year, fostering connection and collaboration among staff and families in the Bronx., • Flexible Health Coverage: A full suite of medical, dental, and vision plans designed to support diverse needs, utilizing Cigna and Anthem provider networks., • Competitive Compensation: A salary range of $86,000 to $103,000, with pay varying within this range based on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience., • Retirement Plans: A 403(b) plan and 401(k) retirement options with matching contributions, helping you secure your financial future while you grow with us. SUMMARYThe Special Education Teacher conducts a special education preschool classroom for children who are blind / visually impaired or those on the autistic spectrum, have multiple impairments, and have severe medical issues. Maintaining positive communication with parents, other staff members, and professionals outside of HKSB is critical to success. Must demonstrate a sincere commitment to HKSB’s Mission and Values, conduct him/herself at a high professional level at all times, and project a positive image of HKSB internally and externallyESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Reports to school Principal, • Develop instruction group and individual for all students in the class based on the individual needs of the student as outlined in the IEPs, • Develops and implements student-specific adaptations for sensory, motor, self-help, and other areas of need in collaboration with therapists to maximize learning for each student., • Works collaboratively with the therapist and other school staff as a member of a trans-disciplinary team to develop and deliver an individualized program for each student, • Establishes and maintains relationships with families that act to further the development of the child by assisting the family to carry over strategies from school to home. Acts as the primary contact between home and school., • Continuously evaluates student progress and documents that progress in report cards, progress notes, and annual updates., • Submits weekly lesson plans and monthly class calendars to the principal, • Maintains accurate attendance documents and submits to the administrative assistant monthly, • Advocates for the educational and developmental needs of their students both in the school and in the wider community, • Participates in teacher and team meetings and completes tasks from those meetings in a timely and professional manner, • Actively participates in school-wide functions such as field trips, graduation, parent days, etc., • Seeks out and participates in professional development activities, appropriate to the population of students, both within the school and in the larger educational community., • Attendance at IEP meetings and searching for placements, • Supervises and develops work duties and schedules for instructional assistants to ensure smooth functioning of the class, • Master's Degree in Special Education as a Teacher of The Visually Impaired or as a Special Education Teacher from an accredited Teacher Preparation program., • Experience with children with disabilities preferred CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Valid New York State Teachers License as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired or as a Special Education Teacher.
