Job Description Job Title: Quality Inspector – 1st Shift Job Description The Quality Inspector ensures that all products and services meet defined specifications and customer requirements throughout the manufacturing process. Acting as the eyes of the customer, this role plays a critical part in identifying nonconformances, communicating findings, and supporting continuous improvement so that all quality processes meet both customer needs and internal standards. Responsibilities • Perform in-process inspections to verify that dimensional and cosmetic specifications are met on products being manufactured and on products ready for final inspection., • Conduct incoming inspections on raw materials, sub-contracted finishing, and externally produced items as required., • Communicate required adjustments and rework needs for non-compliant materials to appropriate personnel, including active participation in Material Review Board (MRB) activities., • Document inspection results on applicable reports such as First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs) and other inspection records in a clear and accurate manner., • Carry out process audits and product inspections throughout the manufacturing process using a wide range of inspection tools, including calipers, micrometers, height gages, thread gages, pin gages, thickness testers, and gloss meters., • Support the use and potential future implementation of advanced inspection technologies, with the possibility of being trained to operate CMM machines and portable CMM equipment such as FARO ARM systems., • Assist with the calibration process for all inspection equipment, including collecting, tagging, distributing, and updating status in the calibration database., • Work closely with team members to implement corrective and preventive actions to address quality issues and prevent recurrence., • Provide support, training, and clear communication to production personnel on quality standards, inspection criteria, and identified issues., • Perform inspections and quality checks across multiple departments, including sheet metal fabrication, machining, welding, metal blending, finishing (masking, painting, and related processes), assembly, and final inspection., • Manage time effectively to handle multiple inspection tasks in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high attention to detail., • Experience working in a mechanical fabrication environment, such as machining, sheet metal, welding, finishing, and assembly operations., • Excellent blueprint reading and interpretation skills to accurately assess product conformance., • Good understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) preferred for interpreting complex drawings., • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite with solid computer and typing skills for documentation and reporting., • Ability to use a wide range of precision measuring equipment, including calipers, micrometers, height gages, gage blocks, thread gages, and pin gages., • Willingness and ability to learn and use coordinate measuring machines (CMM) and portable CMM equipment, such as systems running PC-DMIS software and FARO ARM devices., • Strong proficiency with geometry and trigonometry (machine shop math) to support accurate measurements and calculations., • Ability to work independently and as part of a team while managing multiple priorities., • Ability to learn quickly, retain information, and apply new knowledge to daily tasks., • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills to identify root causes and support effective corrective actions., • Effective communication, organizational, and time management skills to coordinate with production and quality teams., • Self-starter mindset with strong attention to detail, results orientation, energy, and a proactive approach., • Flexibility to adapt to changing tasks, work schedules, and shifting priorities in a dynamic environment., • Experience using CMM equipment and portable CMM systems (such as FARO ARM) with PC-DMIS software is preferred but not required., • Familiarity with process inspections, process compliance, and process audits in a manufacturing environment., • Experience in quality control or quality inspection within a fabrication or machining setting., • Interest in pursuing training to become an AWS Certified Associate Welding Inspector (AWS-CAWI) is considered an asset., • Comfort working with interactive diagrams and work instructions to guide inspections and quality checks. Work Environment This role is based in a manufacturing setting with regular exposure to heavy equipment, machinery, and associated noise levels. You will frequently walk, stand, bend, squat, and move continuously throughout the shift, and you must be able to lift up to 30 pounds as part of normal duties. The facility is well kept, with strong lighting and clearly presented, interactive diagrams and work instructions in each department to support safe and accurate work. You will spend time across multiple production areas, including sheet metal fabrication, machining, welding, finishing, assembly, and final inspection, working around a variety of tools, gauges, and inspection equipment in a fast-paced environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Binghamton, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $26.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
