The Marketing & Communications Director is responsible for telling the KSPS PBS story across broadcast, digital, and community platforms. This role leads both the vision and day-to-day execution of campaigns that grow audience, deepen engagement, and support fundraising. The Director will create and manage cross-platform storytelling initiatives that highlight KSPS PBS’s mission to connect, enrich, and inspire all the communities we serve. The Director ensures KSPS PBS’s story is told in a way that both builds audiences for our programming and attracts the donor support necessary to sustain it, maintaining the balance between mission impact and financial stability. The ideal candidate is both a strategist and a hands-on practitioner, capable of developing high-level plans while rolling up their sleeves to write, produce, and deploy content. This position requires creativity, adaptability, and a commitment to ensuring KSPS PBS’s brand voice reflects the organization’s values of integrity, inclusion, professionalism, and innovation. Job Duties & Responsibilities 1. Audience Growth & Engagement • Grow and diversify audiences across broadcast, Passport, streaming, YouTube, social media, and digital platforms., • Create campaigns that attract younger and more diverse viewers while sustaining loyal long-time supporters., • Design campaigns that connect the excitement of programming with opportunities for community investment and donor support. 2. Content Creation & Storytelling • Lead cross-platform campaigns using video, social reels, graphics, and copywriting., • Produce and schedule promotional content for broadcast, streaming, and digital outlets., • Ensure content is aligned with KSPS PBS’s mission pillars and IDEA commitments. 3. Digital Strategy • Oversee KSPS.org and digital presence, with attention to SEO, UX, and analytics., • Plan and execute paid and organic digital campaigns (search, social, programmatic) with measurable ROI., • Manage analytics dashboards, track KPIs, and report results to leadership. 4. Community & Partnerships • Build and maintain relationships with regional media, influencers, and partner organizations in both the U.S. and Canada., • Collaborate with internal departments (Development, Education, Production, and Executive leadership) to align messaging and campaigns., • Support fundraising campaigns by creating integrated donor-focused communications., • Be present at community and station events to engage directly with audiences, amplifying energy through live or proof-of-performance posts that celebrate both viewership and donor impact. 5. Management & Leadership • Supervise and mentor the Digital Media Specialist and contractors/vendors., • Provide coaching, clear expectations, and accountability while contributing directly to content creation., • Present marketing strategy and performance metrics to senior leadership and board committees. Requirements To perform this job successfully, an individual must meet the minimum qualifications listed below. These qualifications are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required to perform this job. Education/Experience: • 5+ years of progressive experience in marketing, communications, or related fields., • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, or equivalent professional experience., • Nonprofit or public media experience preferred., • Proven success in planning and executing digital campaigns across social, search, streaming, and web platforms., • Demonstrated ability to balance audience growth with donor engagement, showing how marketing can strengthen both mission reach and financial stability., • Familiarity with CRM systems, donor databases, and marketing automation tools., • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills with the ability to tailor messaging for diverse audiences., • Experience in analytics and data-driven decision-making., • Demonstrated adaptability, creativity, and collaborative leadership., • Commitment to the mission of KSPS PBS and to values of integrity, inclusion, and innovation., • Adaptability and problem-solving skills to manage competing priorities and respond effectively to change., • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to maintain positive relationships and represent KSPS PBS to diverse audiences., • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make timely, well-reasoned decisions., • Proficiency in common business software (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and internet applications)., • Analytical ability to synthesize information, track performance metrics, and apply data to strategy., • Effective language skills, including the ability to write and edit business correspondence, reports, and promotional materials, and to present information clearly to groups and individuals., • Functional mathematical skills sufficient to analyze data, prepare reports, and work with percentages and other basic calculations., • Ability to work at a computer and desk for extended periods of time., • Occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds (such as for event setup, promotional materials, or equipment)., • Evening and weekend hours may be required for community events and station activities., • Reliable transportation to attend community events and appointments within our broadcast region (Inland Northwest and Western Canada). Salary Range is $85,000-$95,000/yr depending on qualifications Benefits offered include: • Full-time, exempt, • Regular Schedule (M-F, 8 am – 5 pm) - up to 2 days/week remote, • Up to 11 paid holidays (holiday must fall on a normally scheduled workday) or time and a half when working on the actual holiday., • Vacation: 96 hours annually, • Paid Sick Leave, • Medical/Dental Insurance for employees (and optionally their families), • Life Insurance, • Short and Long Term Disability, • Retirement Benefits (401K Plan) - Once employee is eligible, Friends of KSPS contributes 3% annually
