Job DescriptionPractice the Medicine You Went to Veterinary School For.Not every day should look the same. One appointment might be a puppy's first vaccines. The next could be a diabetic ketoacidosis case needing stabilization. Followed by an exploratory surgery. A rabbit dental. An injured owl. Or helping a family through one of the hardest conversations they'll ever have. At Hunter Veterinary Clinic, we believe great veterinary medicine is built on collaboration, curiosity, and continual learning. As a busy general practice with urgent care services, we enjoy the best of both worlds—developing lasting relationships through preventive care while caring for the unexpected medical and surgical cases that challenge us to keep learning. We don't expect every veterinarian to know everything—we expect every veterinarian to be willing to learn, ask questions, and help each other provide the best care possible. Whether you've been practicing for two years or twenty, we believe the best medicine comes from working together. We practice high-quality, evidence-based medicine while embracing spectrum-of-care, recognizing that every family and every patient is different. We believe excellent veterinary care means partnering with clients to develop thoughtful, ethical treatment plans that fit their goals, circumstances, and resources. We're looking for a veterinarian who enjoys working as part of a collaborative team, values continual growth, and is excited to care for a remarkably diverse group of patients. A genuine interest in exotic animal medicine is required. A strong interest in surgery is highly desirable. Experienced veterinarians and motivated new graduates seeking mentorship are encouraged to apply. ✨ What You'll Do Our caseload offers an exceptional breadth of medicine and surgery, including: • Preventive and wellness care, • Internal medicine, • Urgent care, • Soft tissue surgery, • Dentistry, • Diagnostic imaging, • Exotic animal medicine, • Raptor and Corvid Rehabilitation (for those interested), • Hospitalized medical and surgical case management Our patients include:, • Dogs, • Cats, • Rabbits, • Ferrets, • Birds, • Reptiles, • Small mammals, • Raptors and Corvids: including eagles, hawks, falcons, owls, ravens, and crowsWhether you're seeing a routine wellness appointment or stabilizing a critically ill patient, you'll have the opportunity to practice thoughtful, high-quality medicine with the support of an experienced team. Every veterinarian is encouraged to develop their own professional interests. If surgery excites you, we'll help you grow. If exotics are your passion, you'll see them every week. If you enjoy challenging medical cases, you'll never be bored. Urgent Care That Keeps Medicine Interesting We're not an emergency hospital—but every afternoon and the first Saturday of the month is designed around an urgent care model. Our urgent care caseload means you'll regularly diagnose and manage patients with conditions such as: • Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), • Pyometra, • Gastric foreign bodies, • Urinary obstruction, • Respiratory distress, • Toxicities, • Lacerations and trauma, • Acute gastrointestinal disease, • Seizures, • Allergic reactions The variety keeps your clinical skills sharp while allowing you to build long-term relationships with clients and their pets. One hour you may be performing a wellness exam, the next stabilizing a critically ill patient, then heading into surgery. If you enjoy practicing the full spectrum of veterinary medicine, you'll find plenty of opportunities here. Collaboration & Mentorship Medicine is a team sport. We believe the best patient care comes from veterinarians who are comfortable asking questions, sharing ideas, and learning from one another. Challenging cases are discussed together. Radiographs are reviewed together. Surgical plans are talked through together. We celebrate successes together and support one another through difficult cases. Whether you're an experienced veterinarian looking for collaborative colleagues or a new graduate searching for meaningful mentorship, you'll find a team that enjoys teaching, learning, and helping each other succeed. New graduates won't be expected to know everything on day one. Experienced veterinarians won't be left practicing in isolation. Everyone continues learning here. Our Approach to Medicine We strive to provide high-quality, evidence-based medicine while recognizing that every family and every patient is different. We believe in spectrum-of-care medicine—working with clients to develop thoughtful diagnostic and treatment plans that balance medical excellence with each family's goals, resources, and circumstances. Excellent medicine isn't always defined by doing everything possible. It's about helping every client make informed decisions while providing compassionate, ethical care for every patient. Who You Are You'll likely thrive here if you: • Enjoy practicing medicine across multiple species, • Have a genuine interest in exotic animal medicine, • Enjoy surgery or are eager to continue developing your surgical skills, • Value teamwork over ego, • Communicate honestly and compassionately with clients and staff, • Appreciate both evidence-based medicine and practical problem-solving, • Find satisfaction in helping clients make informed decisions, regardless of budget, • Believe every patient deserves thoughtful, compassionate care, • Are curious, motivated, and committed to lifelong learning Compensation & Benefits We believe exceptional veterinarians should be compensated for the value they bring to their patients, clients, and team. • Competitive salary based on experience, • Quarterly production bonuses, • Expected total annual compensation of $100,000–$165,000, depending on experience, productivity, and professional growth, • Full-time preferred, • Benefits outlined separately in our employee handbook ❤️ Why Hunter Veterinary Clinic? Because you'll actually get to use your veterinary degree in a privately owned veterinary hospital that prioritizes people, pets, and relationships over shareholders. You'll practice medicine that challenges you. You'll care for an incredible diversity of species. You'll continue developing your medical and surgical skills throughout your career. You'll work alongside teammates who enjoy collaborating, teaching, and supporting one another. You'll practice medicine that balances excellence with compassion and recognizes there is often more than one right path to helping a patient. Most importantly, you'll join a practice where growth is encouraged, curiosity is valued, and every day offers the opportunity to become a better veterinarian. Ready to Apply? If you're looking for a practice where collaboration matters, mentorship is valued, surgery is encouraged, urgent care keeps every day interesting, and exotic animal medicine is part of everyday life, we'd love to hear from you. Tell us about yourself - your hobbies and your professional interests, and what kind of veterinarian you aspire to become. We can't wait to meet you.
