Job Description Position Summary The Entry Writer is responsible for preparing, reviewing, and keying U.S. Customs entries in compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and internal procedures. This role is critical to ensuring accurate, timely customs clearance while maintaining strong compliance standards and excellent client service. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and knowledgeable in customs documentation, HTS classification, and CBP regulations, with the ability to manage multiple entries efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities • Customs Entry Preparation & Filing, • Prepare and key customs entry data (formal and informal) for air, ocean, and truck shipments within the brokerage system, • Review commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading/air waybills, and other supporting documents for accuracy and compliance, • Ensure correct HTS classification, duty rates, country of origin, and valuation for all keyed entries prior to submission by authorized personnel, • Apply appropriate PGA (Partner Government Agency) requirements when applicable (FDA, USDA, EPA, etc.), • Verify admissibility requirements and flag potential issues prior to filing Compliance & Regulatory Adherence • Ensure entries comply with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations and internal SOPs, • Identify and escalate compliance risks, discrepancies, or missing information, • Assist with post-entry corrections, PSCs, protests, and audits as needed, • Maintain accurate records in accordance with recordkeeping requirements Client & Internal Communication • Coordinate with clients, overseas agents, and internal operations teams to obtain required documentation, • Respond to CBP requests, cargo exams, and documentation inquiries in a timely manner, • Provide clear updates on clearance status and resolve entry-related issues efficiently System & Data Management • Accurately input and maintain shipment and entry data within the brokerage/forwarding system, • Ensure consistency between customs entries, commercial documents, and internal records, • Support continuous improvement of entry processes and documentation workflows Required Qualifications • 1–3 years of experience as an Entry Writer or in a customs brokerage role, • Working knowledge of U.S. Customs regulations, HTS classification, and valuation principles, • Strong working knowledge of CargoWise is required; familiarity with ACE and customs brokerage workflows is expected, • Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy, • Ability to manage multiple entries and meet strict deadlines, • Strong written and verbal communication skills Preferred Qualifications • Licensed U.S. Customs Broker (LCB) or actively pursuing license, • Experience handling PGAs (FDA, USDA, EPA, FCC, etc.), • Knowledge of ISF, reconciliation, and special trade programs, • Experience working in a high-volume brokerage environment Skills & Competencies • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, • Compliance-driven mindset with sound judgment, • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, • Client-focused with a professional demeanor Work Environment & Expectations • Office-based or hybrid role depending on company policy, • Fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, • High level of confidentiality and regulatory responsibility Career Growth Opportunities • Senior Entry Writer, • Compliance Analyst, • Licensed Customs Broker, • Brokerage Supervisor or Manager
