Job Description The Position The Windward institute is looking for a literacy leader and professional development provider to join The Windward Institute Team in elevating the work of The Windward Institute. Applicants must possess a strong knowledge of the science of reading, evidence-based instructional practices, and current research on reading and all aspects of literacy. Applicants must also have a demonstrated commitment to increasing childhood literacy rates and meeting the needs of students with reading challenges. Duties and Responsibilities • As a content specialist, demonstrate and share knowledge of reading science in support of The Windward Institute’s efforts to promote research-based practices for teaching and learning to increase childhood literacy rates, • Develop, deliver, and provide support for live virtual, hybrid, and in-person workshops and courses as well as asynchronous professional learning modules on topics related to the science of reading, structured literacy, and writing, • Develop program agnostic print and digital resources, teaching tools, supplementary content, and templates for teacher training and classroom instructional use that support Windward Institute workshops, courses, modules, and site-based professional development in schools, • Identify opportunities for, develop, and deliver off-site and hybrid professional development workshops to schools and organizations on specific Windward Institute workshops/ courses as well as custom content for school-specific offerings, • Identify opportunities for and provide off-site instructional coaching to support program, curriculum, and research-based strategy implementation in schools; provide ongoing support to ensure evidence-aligned pedagogical techniques are integrated into classroom practice, • Develop parent education content for seminars, workshops, webinars, and/or lectures, • Provide content and other support for workshops, courses, presentations, and lectures delivered by members of The Windward Institute and The Windward School, • Create and curate resources for The Windward Institute website to support professional learning for educators who work with students with language-based learning disabilities, literacy advocates, individuals, and families, • Contribute to Windward Institute publications and digital content including but not limited to The Beacon, The Windward Institute Newsletter, The Windward Institute blog, and social media, • Identify opportunities for and support conference proposal development and presentations for members of The Windward Institute and The Windward School; Develop, submit, and present conference workshops, lectures, and poster presentations, • Support the Executive Director and Director of The Windward Institute in promoting all aspects of The Windward Institute, • Additional duties as assigned by the Executive Director and Director of The Windward Institute Specific Requirements • Advanced degree in Reading, Literacy, Curriculum and Instruction, Special Education, or related field. PhD/ EdD preferred., • Demonstrated knowledge of all aspects of literacy and research-based practices for teaching and learning, • A minimum of five years of experience as a literacy coach, reading specialist, curriculum developer, professional development provider, college-level instructor in literacy or related field, speech-language pathologist, and/or special education teacher, • Knowledge of adult learning theories and principles, • Cultural competence and the ability to work well with diverse constituent groups, • Ability to work collegially within a team to achieve mission-critical objectives, • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (writing sample required)
