Job Description Development Associate GSGNY Background The Girl Scouts of Greater New York (GSGNY) is a leading youth development organization serving 16,000 girls ages 5–18 each year. Our mission is to ensure that every girl across New York City can develop the courage, confidence, and character needed to thrive. GSGNY delivers empowering programs in nearly every NYC zip code, from traditional troop experiences to STEM and robotics, leadership development, and meaningful community service. We also support unhoused girls living in shelters across the city and send 5,000 girls each summer to our beautiful camp in upstate New York. Through our iconic Cookie Program, Girl Scouts earn money for troop activities while building critical financial literacy and entrepreneurial skills. Position Description Girl Scouts of Greater New York (GSGNY) seeks an Advancement Associate, to support and advance the organization’s fundraising strategy, with a primary focus on individual giving, donor stewardship, and development operations. This role serves as a key support to the Director, Individual Giving and plays an integral role in executing fundraising initiatives, supporting donor relationships, and ensuring operational excellence across the Advancement department. The Advancement Associate supports fundraising activities that collectively raise approximately $4 million annually and contributes to the organization’s goal of expanding its nearly $10 million in overall revenue. The role balances direct fundraising support with gift processing administration, donor research, data management, reporting, and events coordination, and offers meaningful opportunities for professional growth within a dynamic, mission-driven organization. Key Responsibilities Gift Administration & Development Operations • Process gifts and pledges, including checks, online donations, stocks, and bequests., • Prepare, review, and send donor acknowledgment and tax receipt letters in compliance with IRS and organizational guidelines., • Maintain accurate gift documentation, donor records, and filing systems., • Execute weekly gift logs and notify appropriate staff of incoming donations., • Serve as primary support to the Director, Individual Giving in executing the individual giving strategy, including annual fund, mid-level donors, and donor pipeline development., • Assist with managing donor portfolios by supporting the tracking of moves management activities, preparing briefing materials, documenting donor interactions, and coordinating follow-up actions., • Draft donor-facing communications including appeals, proposals, acknowledgements, stewardship updates, and solicitation materials., • Support the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individual donors, including attending donor meetings and events as needed., • Execute donor stewardship plans in collaboration with the Director, Individual Giving, ensuring timely, personalized, and accurate recognition and communications., • Manage and grow the "Friendship Circle" (gifts under $1,000), including stewardship strategies, outreach campaigns, and donor retention efforts., • Coordinate donor recognition efforts, including listing accuracy, naming opportunities, and fulfillment of benefits., • Conduct prospect research to identify, qualify, and prioritize prospective individual donors using research tools and internal data., • Prepare donor profiles, research summaries, and briefing documents for leadership, board members, and frontline fundraisers., • Produce regular and ad hoc fundraising reports, dashboards, and analyses to support strategy, forecasting, and performance tracking., • Support individual giving-related and Advancement special events, including cultivation events and major fundraising events such as the Woman of Distinction, Gala, and smaller cultivation events., • Coordinate logistics, donor communications, guest lists, RSVPs, seating, and follow-up related to events., • Collaborate with Finance to reconcile gifts, pledges, and donor records., • Support board governance and volunteer leadership with record keeping, reporting, and fundraising-related materials., • Assist with donor mailings, appeals, and reviews of lists and materials for accuracy., • Bachelor's degree required., • 1-3 years of experience in nonprofit development, fundraising, or donor relations., • Basic understanding of individual giving best practices, donor stewardship, and development operations., • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; comfort interacting with donors and senior stakeholders., • Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment., • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT or similar CRM strongly preferred., • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and reporting skills., • Commitment to high-quality donor service and confidentiality., • Annual Salary $50,000 - $55,000 (Depending on experience), • Comprehensive benefits including options for health, dental & vision coverage, Flexible Spending Account/FSA, commuter benefits, 403(b) retirement savings plan with employer match, and generous PTO.
