Purpose of Classification: The purpose of this classification is to ensure that mail, packages, documents, supplies, and equipment received by the department or required at satellite locations for election activities are sorted, processed and delivered to the proper location/facility in a timely manner. This classification is distinguished from other courier classifications in that this class is specifically assigned to the Registration and Election Department and as such may transport and route highly sensitive information within specific time constraints. Essential Functions: The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned. Loads documents, equipment, packages, supplies, and other items in County vehicles for delivery; and ensures that all delivery items are ready for loading as scheduled. Retrieves, sorts and delivers mail and mail related items: processes incoming U.S. Postal Service mail and delivers to appropriate department; responsible for handling time sensitive secure items related to voter registration and election activities; and redistributes mail returned by post office. Processes outgoing mail for the United States Post Office, including using postage machines and maintaining lists of various U.S. Postal fees; and tracks departmental expenses related to mail, packages, correspondence, etc. Delivers equipment to polling locations and/or functions related to voter education and registration; locates, loads, secures, and unloads equipment and assists with assembly. Documents pick-up and delivery of all items which require tracking: signs for, logs and tracks high priority items from Postal Service and other courier services; and inspects/verifies seals of sensitive items and signs appropriate documentation. Investigates and resolves delivery issues: traces and tracks packages; and answers questions pertaining to arrival and delivery of mail and mail related items. Determines delivery routes based on location of high priority items. Maintains County delivery vehicles, including cleaning, fueling, and scheduling preventative maintenance and repairs; and prepares and maintains fueling and mileage records of vehicles as required. Performs general office duties, such as answering telephones, filing records, and copying documents. Additional Functions: Performs other related duties as required.
