Job Description Branch Manager – Milling & Heavy Civil Construction • Bakersfield, CA | Full-Time | On-Site, • $150,000–$200,000/year (DOE), • Relocation Assistance Available About Us: We are an established, growth-oriented heavy civil and infrastructure contractor specializing in pavement rehabilitation, milling, roadway construction, and related infrastructure services throughout the Western U.S. Our reputation has been built on operational excellence, safety, technical expertise, and long-standing relationships across both public and private markets. With a strong project pipeline and continued investment in our people and operations, we are seeking an accomplished construction leader to take ownership of a significant Bakersfield operation. The Opportunity: We are hiring a Branch Manager to provide complete leadership and operational oversight of our Bakersfield, CA branch. This is a high-impact leadership position overseeing an established operation of approximately 35 employees and $28M in annual revenue. The Branch Manager will have responsibility across operations, people, financial performance, safety, business development, estimating/bidding support, customer relationships, and overall branch profitability. • Strong milling experience is a key requirement., • Equally important is leadership ability. This branch has an experienced, hardworking team with strong personalities, and we need a confident, level-headed manager who knows how to build trust, hold people accountable, resolve conflict, and get different personalities working toward the same objective., • This is an excellent opportunity for someone who has progressed through heavy civil or roadway construction and is ready to truly own and lead a business unit. What You'll Do • Provide complete operational and strategic leadership for the Bakersfield branch., • Oversee an established team of approximately 35 employees across field, operations, and office functions., • Manage a business unit generating approximately $28M in annual revenue, with accountability for profitability, budgeting, forecasting, and overall financial performance., • Lead branch operations with a strong focus on milling, roadway construction, pavement rehabilitation, and maintenance activities., • Manage, mentor, coach, and develop field and office personnel while creating a culture of accountability and teamwork., • Navigate challenging personnel situations and resolve conflicts professionally, consistently, and effectively., • Oversee workforce planning, hiring, scheduling, performance management, and employee development., • Drive successful execution of projects from estimating and preconstruction through field operations, billing, and closeout., • Develop branch-level sales and market strategies while identifying new project and bidding opportunities., • Strengthen relationships with existing customers while developing new public and private sector business., • Coordinate bid opportunities and delegate estimating responsibilities to appropriate team members., • Monitor job costs, productivity, margins, schedules, and overall project performance., • Ensure consistent standards across safety, quality, operations, customer service, and company procedures., • Partner closely with regional and corporate leadership on branch performance, strategic planning, and operational initiatives., • Maintain strong communication between field teams, office personnel, customers, and executive leadership., • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, profitability, productivity, and long-term branch growth. Job Qualifications • 15+ years of construction industry experience strongly preferred., • 7+ years of construction management or operational leadership experience within private and/or public works construction., • Strong milling experience is required, ideally combined with roadway, pavement rehabilitation, asphalt, heavy civil, or related infrastructure construction expertise., • Demonstrated experience managing a significant construction operation, branch, division, or business unit., • Strong understanding of P&L management, budgeting, forecasting, job costing, productivity, and profitability., • Proven ability to lead field and office personnel in a high-volume construction environment., • Exceptional people leadership and conflict-resolution skills with the ability to effectively manage experienced teams and strong personalities., • Track record of developing employees, creating accountability, and building high-performing teams., • Strong commercial instincts with experience supporting sales, estimating, bidding, and customer relationship development., • Ability to understand operational challenges quickly and make decisive, informed business decisions., • Excellent organization, prioritization, communication, and follow-through., • Experience with construction estimating and job-cost tracking software., • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word., • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Business, or a related discipline preferred., • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
