Job Description Job Title: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – Pain Management Position Summary: The Pain Management LPN provides specialized clinical and administrative support within a multidisciplinary pain management practice. This role requires strong knowledge of interventional pain procedures, LCDs (Local Coverage Determinations), Medicare guidelines, and insurance authorization workflows. The LPN will coordinate surgeries and interventional procedures, manage prior authorizations, organize pre- and post-operative care, screen patients clinically, and ensure all requirements for medical necessity and documentation are met. Key Responsibilities • Screen patients for medical history, contraindications, allergies, medication interactions, and candidacy for pain procedures., • Collect and verify medical clearances, imaging, labs, and specialist notes required for pre-procedure compliance., • Complete prior authorizations for all pain management procedures, surgeries, and imaging, • Review LCDs, Medicare NCDs, commercial payer guidelines, and medical necessity requirements for each procedure., • Ensure proper documentation (clinical notes, imaging reports, failed conservative therapy, PT notes) is obtained before submitting authorizations., • Track authorization deadlines, renewals, denials, and appeals., • Schedule all interventional pain procedures, surgical cases, and related follow-up appointments., • Epidural steroid injections (ESI) – cervical, thoracic, lumbar, • Medial branch blocks (MBBs), • Radiofrequency ablation (RFA), • Facet joint injections, • Sacroiliac (SI) joint injections, • Peripheral nerve blocks, • Trigger point injections, • Spinal cord stimulator trials and implants, • Kyphoplasty / vertebroplasty (if applicable), • Joint injections (shoulder, hip, knee), • Coordinate spinal cord stimulator trials and implants, including vendor communication and facility scheduling., • Manage pre- and post-operative appointment scheduling, ensuring all necessary instructions are delivered to patients., • Communicate preparation instructions (NPO status, medication holds, transportation requirements, etc.) and post-procedure expectations., • Active and unrestricted LPN license., • Experience in pain management, interventional radiology, neurology, orthopedics, or related specialty strongly preferred., • Strong working knowledge of pain management procedures, LCDs, Medicare guidelines, and medical necessity criteria., • Proficiency in prior authorization workflows, insurance terminology, and utilization management., • Excellent communication, organizational, and multitasking skills with attention to detail., • EMR proficiency and ability to manage high patient volumes.
