Job Description Job Title: Shipping and Receiving Clerk Job Description The Shipping and Receiving Clerk (Warehouse Associate) performs a variety of specialized warehouse tasks, including loading and unloading materials, order pulling, shipping, returns, and general material handling. This role supports daily warehouse operations by accurately handling inventory, preparing materials for transport, and maintaining a clean and safe work area while following established processes and safety procedures. Responsibilities • Load and unload materials to and from designated storage areas, such as racks, shelves, or vehicles., • Stack and pile materials, including lumber, boards, pallets, and other products, in an organized and secure manner., • Install protective devices such as bracing, padding, or strapping to prevent shifting or damage to items during transport., • Verify computations against physical counts of stock to ensure inventory accuracy., • Receive and fill orders for supplies, materials, and products for installers and subcontractors., • Assist with shipping and returns by preparing, staging, and organizing materials for outbound and inbound shipments., • Perform generalized warehouse tasks such as loading, unloading, sorting, picking, stocking, and staging materials as needed., • Maintain the condition of the work area by keeping it clean, free of trash, and ensuring products are in the correct locations., • Follow company safety policies and procedures and encourage other associates to adhere to safety guidelines., • Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, or other warehouse machinery to move, load, or unload materials when required., • Drive a truck to pick up incoming stock or deliver materials to designated locations, as assigned and if qualified., • Perform detailed checks and close reviews of work output to ensure accuracy and quality., • Seek guidance from supervisors on non-routine issues and follow prescribed processes and instructions., • Perform other duties as assigned to support overall warehouse operations. Essential Skills • 0–2 years of experience in a warehouse, shipping and receiving, or material handling role., • High school diploma or GED required., • Forklift experience and ability to safely operate sit-down forklifts., • Material handling experience, including loading, unloading, picking, packing, and stocking., • Experience working in a warehouse environment with inventory and pallet handling., • Ability to operate pallet jacks and related warehouse equipment., • Knowledge of machines and tools used in warehouse operations., • Ability to follow clearly prescribed rules, past practices, and written or verbal instructions., • Comfort working under close supervision with limited independent judgment., • Strong attention to detail with the ability to verify physical stock counts against computations., • Commitment to following safety policies and procedures. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience with order picking and packing processes., • Familiarity with shipping, returns, and basic inventory control practices., • Ability to perform detailed checks and close review of work output., • Willingness to seek advice and guidance on non-routine issues from supervisors., • Comfort working in a structured environment where deviations from standard processes are reviewed and approved by a supervisor., • Ability to work collaboratively with other warehouse associates and support a team-oriented environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Edison, NJ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00/hr.
