Under the direction of the appropriate level supervisor, the DSP performs various tasks and duties to assure that the living environment is properly maintained and kept in a clean, neat and orderly condition. • Performs/teaches developmentally disabled individuals routine housekeeping duties such as dusting, washing floors and walls, cleaning bathrooms, and vacuuming rugs., • Assists developmentally disabled individuals in bed making., • Follows safety procedures in living unit by mopping up spills, reporting unsafe conditions, teaches and reinforces fire safety procedures. Checks to see that fire exits are clear, night-lights and exit signs on, windows locked, etc., • Stores supplies and assures that storage areas are kept in a neat and orderly condition., • Responsible for storage and replacement of linens., • May assist in various household inventories., • Performs/teaches minor and routine maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, fuses, replacement of faucet washers; and obtains repair services for appliances., • Performs/teaches routine removal of trash, cleaning of trash containers, ashtrays, etc., • Teaches/performs outdoor maintenance tasks and repairs of residence, yard, garden, walks; reports need for or obtains repair services for automobiles, vans, mowers, etc., • Checks fire equipment and reports any malfunction., • Teaches and reinforces use of a variety of communication skills., • Guides individuals through motor exercises designed to increase physical coordinative functions., • Teaches and reinforces principles of human growth and development, including human sexuality, as determined by each person's developmental level and program plan., • Teaches acceptable work habits, e.g., punctuality, dress and grooming, to enable individuals to develop readiness for work outside the home, or in support of individuals' habilitative goals., • Accompanies developmentally disabled individuals to community activities including worksites, cultural, religious and social events, day programs, and visits to health practitioners; aids them in developing awareness and use of community resources and in interacting with others., • Provides support for maximum community integration., • Transports/arranges for transport of individuals to community events; and aids them in development of their mobility skills., • Maintains an adequate supply of and accounting of personal clothing and possessions., • Teaches money management principles to developmentally disabled individuals; and completes/aids in completion of banking activities., • Provides an accurate accounting of all financial transactions made on behalf of individuals in their care., • Helps developmentally disabled individuals to develop/maintain positive interpersonal relationships with their peers, with others in their families, and with others in the community. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The duties and responsibilities of the Residence Program Specialist will include but are not limited to the following: • Provides care and assists with personal development and independence of the people we support., • Ensures that all measures for safety and well-being are maintained at highest level., • Provides training for the people we support in activities of daily living and in development of self-help and social skills., • Maintains a personalized, homelike atmosphere in the residential facility., • Attends weekly staff meetings as well as any other assigned meetings and in-service trainings., • Prepares concise written reports including Incident Reports, Progress Notes and other reports as assigned., • Responds to crisis situations and medical emergencies, including accidents by taking quick and decisive action., • Ensures actions are conducted in a manner that prevents abuse, and reports observations of co-workers who may be abusive in accordance with established procedures., • Administers appropriate first aid based on visible symptoms and medical history of the people we support in accordance with established guidelines and accepted first aid practices., • Summons police, fire, ambulance or other emergency personnel if situation warrants it., • If an emergency has caused a person we support to exhibit behavior that is threatening or dangerous, may have to utilize strategies for crisis intervention in accordance with OPWDD approved Behavior Management guidelines., • Provides transportation for the people we support in agency vehicles to and from work, shopping, programs, restaurants, movies, doctor’s appointments, etc., • Assists with meal planning and preparation as well as with purchasing of food and supplies., • Demonstrates an understanding of and implements behavioral programs., • Participates fully as a member of interdisciplinary plan., • Maintains an ongoing informal exchange of information. Maintains written logs for recording daily activities., • Performs housekeeping, cooking, laundry, light maintenance and light preventative maintenance duties as needed to maintain a safe and homelike environment., • Supervises any other activities as may be necessary to maintain quality of the program., • Dispenses prescribed medications to the people we support after successful completion of the medication administration course, and in line with Agency protocol. AMAP’s are supervised by residential nurse in all areas related to medication administration., • Completes all activities related to skill buildings as outlined in individual program plans, • Provides support around personal hygiene, i.e. toileting, bathing and changing as needed., • Handles all personal documents of the people we support in a secure and confidential manner., • Performs related duties as requested. Key Responsibilities: * Provide professional nursing care to students during school hours, ensuring a safe and healthy learning environment. * Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with school policies and instructions. * Respond to student health needs, including chronic conditions, injuries, and acute illnesses. * Monitor and support students with individualized healthcare plans (IHPs), 504 plans, and IEPs. * Maintain accurate health records, documentation, and communication with school staff and parents * Promote wellness and provide health education as appropriate within the school community * Adhere to all Department of Education (DOE) policies and clinical standards of care. Job Description • Ensure OPWDD regulations are followed, • Oversee the management nursing staff, • Oversee management of medical records and documentation ., • Works with nurses and residential staff to ensure medical needs of the individuals are being met and documented, • Participate in interdisciplinary meetings to assist in development of treatment and health care plans, • Ensures that the nurses are working closely with the residential staff to ensure that required consents for routine/emergency care, preplanned medical procedures and psychotropic medication are obtained, • Conducts health education/training and OPWDD required in services;, • Signs and Symptoms, Specific health needs of the individuals, Infection control, OSHA guidelines, AMAP training and re-certification. Other Requirements: Current NYS RN License Knowledge of or experience in developmental disabilities Knowledge of and experience in health care management and administration Excellent written and verbal communication skills
