Job Description Job description: Chill Factor HVAC – New York City, NY Pay: $30–$40 per hour, based on experience, OT available, plus performance bonuses Job Type: Full-time Work Location: On the road throughout all five NYC boroughs About the Position Chill Factor HVAC is hiring a highly experienced Senior HVAC Service Technician to handle residential and commercial service calls throughout New York City. This position is focused heavily on preventive maintenance, system diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repair, particularly for: • Ductless mini-split and multi-split air-conditioning systems, • Central air-conditioning systems, • Heat pumps, • VRF and VRV systems, • Rooftop units, • Boilers and furnaces, • Commercial and residential HVAC equipment This is not an entry-level or helper position. We are looking for an independent technician who can arrive at a job, assess the complete system, identify the actual cause of the problem, and provide the correct long-term solution. The right candidate is a strong problem-solver who understands that replacing a part is not the same as diagnosing a system. Key Responsibilities • Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, troubleshooting, repairs, and installations on residential and commercial HVAC systems, • Diagnose ductless mini-split and multi-split systems, including communication errors, refrigerant issues, sensor failures, drainage problems, electrical faults, control-board issues, and performance deficiencies, • Troubleshoot systems independently using gauges, meters, digital diagnostic tools, manufacturer error codes, technical manuals, and service documentation, • Identify the root cause of equipment failures rather than relying on temporary fixes or unnecessary part replacement, • Inspect and maintain indoor and outdoor units, condensers, evaporator coils, compressors, motors, fans, pumps, control boards, thermostats, valves, sensors, electrical components, and refrigerant circuits, • Perform routine maintenance, including coil cleaning, filter replacement, drain-line service, electrical testing, refrigerant checks, airflow evaluations, and system-performance testing, • Diagnose heating and cooling issues involving central A/C systems, heat pumps, boilers, furnaces, rooftop systems, and related HVAC equipment, • Identify system inefficiencies and recommend practical repair, maintenance, or replacement solutions, • Repair or replace defective components while following manufacturer specifications and industry best practices, • Verify that systems are operating safely, efficiently, and according to design, • Support HVAC installations, equipment replacement, system design, piping layout, controls, and startup procedures, • Maintain compliance with NYC building requirements, safety regulations, and applicable mechanical and refrigeration standards, • Complete accurate service reports documenting findings, diagnostics, repairs, recommendations, and completed work, • Communicate clearly and professionally with homeowners, building staff, property managers, commercial clients, and company management, • Keep work areas clean, organized, and protected throughout every service call Required Qualifications • Minimum of five years of hands-on HVAC service and repair experience, • Strong experience maintaining, diagnosing, and troubleshooting ductless mini-split and multi-split air-conditioning systems, • Proven ability to work independently without requiring continuous supervision, • Advanced troubleshooting skills across electrical, mechanical, airflow, refrigeration, drainage, and control systems, • EPA Section 608 certification, • Relevant FDNY Certificate of Fitness or NYC refrigeration credentials, as applicable, • Experience working with both residential and commercial HVAC equipment, • Ability to read wiring diagrams, technical manuals, service documentation, and manufacturer fault codes, • Strong understanding of the refrigeration cycle and proper refrigerant charging and recovery procedures, • Professional appearance and communication skills, • Dependable, organized, safety-conscious, and comfortable traveling throughout all five NYC boroughs, • Ability to make sound decisions and find solutions under pressure Preferred Qualifications • Valid New York State driver’s license, • Experience with commercial rooftop units and larger HVAC systems, • Experience with VRF and VRV systems, • Familiarity with inverter-driven equipment, modern heat pumps, and high-efficiency HVAC technology, • Experience working in apartment buildings, private residences, retail spaces, offices, and commercial properties, • Manufacturer-specific training or certifications What We Offer • Annual compensation of $60,000–$80,000, based on experience and demonstrated technical ability, • Performance-based bonuses, • Full-time, year-round work, • Consistent service and maintenance opportunities with no seasonal layoffs, • Modern tools, diagnostic equipment, and professional support, • A respectful and experienced team, • Clean, professionally managed projects, • Opportunities for advancement as the company continues to grow About Chill Factor HVAC Chill Factor HVAC provides installation, preventive maintenance, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repair services for residential and commercial HVAC systems throughout New York City’s five boroughs.
