POSITION SUMMARY: This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Membership Director implements membership strategies that support recruitment and retention of YMCA members, create a service-oriented culture, and encourage innovation in providing member satisfaction. The Membership Director ensures the Membership Services team provides a welcoming atmosphere to members and visitors coming through YMCA doors every day. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Uses proficiency in YMCA programs, systems, and services to coordinate and promote phone, web, and walk-in program and membership registration, ensuring accurate data entry and member account management., • Directs and coordinates the activities of membership staff, including establishing work schedules, implementing front desk procedures, and assisting with complex or escalated member service situations., • Observe and evaluate workers’ professional appearance, performance, and behavior to ensure quality service and compliance with YMCA standards., • Engages in relationship-building with members, meeting with members regarding membership assistance opportunities, coordinating member appreciation events, and developing rewards programs., • Recruits, hires, trains, and supervises membership staff; conducts regular evaluations and develops strategies to motivate, retain, and develop employees., • Participates in the planning, implementation, and management of the approved membership budget; monitors financial performance and recommends adjustments as needed., • Coordinates with the Business Office efforts as necessary on financial transactions, cash handling procedures, and other business functions., • Collaborate with the Marketing/Communications Department to develop member communication material, brochures, and in-house information., • Develops and directs high-quality member engagement strategies that support branch and association mission, goals, and retention strategies., • Serves as a member of the branch leadership team, modeling collaboration and communication with staff, departments, and community organizations to strengthen membership and fundraising engagement., • Actively participates in annual fundraising campaign events and projects, encouraging staff and members to support YMCA programs and initiatives., • Responsible for birthday party revenue and coordination of gymnasium activities. Works with the Full-Time MOD and Aquatics Director on managing the scheduling and billing of parties. Ensures appropriate staffing for parties., • Meets with members regarding scholarships and MFA assistance., • At the South and Litehouse Branches, in addition to the member services representatives they will also oversee and schedule the branch’s Managers on Duty (MODs), ensuring effective communication, operational consistency, and high standards of member service and safety., • Performs additional responsibilities as assigned to support the mission and goals of the YMCA. QUALIFICATIONS: • Bachelor's degree in Business, Communication, Marketing, or related field preferred., • May be substituted with at least four years of work experience in a related field, • May be substituted with an associate degree and at least two years of work experience in a related field, • Minimum 1-2 years of supervisory experience in a customer-focused or service-oriented setting., • Displays strong communication and relationship-building skills., • Utilizes computer skills and has experience with standard business software., • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds, • Completion of YMCA program-specific trainings upon hire.
