The Staff Scientist will prepare grant applications and other scientific communication materials on a wide range of genomic research topics. This role is deeply immersed in the science of NYGC and supports our research team in building and expanding a successful, independently-funded research base. They collaborate with diverse teams of students, postdoctoral fellows, and principal investigators, and relates scientific and strategic goals to individual grant opportunities and other research communications vehicles. Typical grants include individual investigator, multi-PI and research center grants. The Sanjana Lab at the New York Genome Center (NYGC) and New York University (NYU) is looking for a motivated individual to work as a Postdoctoral Research Associate within a highly creative and dynamic research team of scientists, bioengineers, human geneticists and computational biologists. The successful candidate will be mentored by Dr. Neville Sanjana on a project related to functional genomics and gene editing. Potential projects include Cas13-based profiling of noncoding RNAs in human neurons, in vivo CRISPR screens for immune and cancer phenotypes, protein design of new gene editors and cell therapies, and massively-parallel perturbations of enhancers and other functional noncoding genome elements. Interested in exploring the role of adipose tissues in mucosal inflammation in a supportive, creative, and inclusive environment? The Grasset lab Our lab’s long-term objective is to uncover novel mechanisms underlying the pathology of Crohn’s disease (CD), a progressive incurable disease characterized by transmural intestinal inflammation leading to complications often requiring bowel resection surgery. The goal is to identify novel therapeutic targets by focusing on two previously disconnected hallmarks of CD: expanded mesenteric adipose tissue wrapping around the intestine – or creeping fat – and anti-microbial antibodies, both correlating with disease complications. Studying these hallmarks will further reveal unexplored relationships between adipocytes, stromal cells, and immune cells driving B cell responses in gut homeostasis and inflammation. Understanding these relationships will impact how we perceive immune responses at other mucosal sites and systemically. Ongoing projects include: the study of the impact of CD-specific microbiota on stromal cell-supported lymphoid structures embedded in mesenteric adipose tissue; specific mechanisms by which stromal cells and adipocytes communicate with B cells; and the subsequent impact on B cell activation and their differentiation to anti-microbial antibody-producing plasma cells. Future projects will investigate how these relationships are established in early life and evolve over time. The Genomics AI Program Manager will support a Center-wide Initiative at the New York Genome Center (NYGC) focused on advancing the development and application of artificial intelligence and machine learning approaches to genomic interpretation and human disease. The Initiative brings together NYGC faculty, technologists, computational scientists, and external collaborators to develop and apply large-scale AI models that link genomic sequence to cell-type-specific regulation, disease phenotypes, and biological function. The mission of the Genomics AI Initiative is to address key bottlenecks in genomic interpretation by integrating high-throughput sequencing, single-cell and spatial multiomics, perturbation and functional genomics, and modern machine learning approaches. This effort is inherently interdisciplinary and collaborative, requiring close coordination across scientific domains, data production and infrastructure, and external collaborative partners. Position Description The Program Manager will provide coordination and operational leadership across the full range of activities undertaken by the Genomics AI Initiative. This includes day-to-day management of complex, multi-investigator scientific collaborations; coordination of Consortium-wide activities such as working groups, journal clubs, and symposia; development of scientific and programmatic materials; and support for grant and philanthropic proposal development. The Director of Molecular Diagnostics serves as the CLIA Laboratory Director for NYGC's clinical molecular diagnostics laboratory. This role provides clinical and scientific leadership for a CLIA-certified, CAP-accredited laboratory performing next-generation sequencing (NGS)-based genetic and oncology testing. The Director is responsible for the clinical validity, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence of all laboratory testing activities. This includes oversight of assay development and validation, quality management systems, regulatory compliance, personnel competency, and clinical interpretation and reporting of molecular diagnostic tests. The Director ensures compliance with CLIA, New York State Department of Health (NYS CLEP), CAP, and other applicable federal and state regulations, including licensure requirements for laboratories providing testing services across multiple U.S. states. Our lab in translational computational oncology integrates single-cell and spatial genomics, cell-free DNA profiling, and machine learning to understand how tumors evolve under therapeutic and microenvironmental pressures. We leverage large, deeply annotated patient cohorts with longitudinal sampling, tightly coupled with functional preclinical models, to enable discovery and validation of mechanisms of tumor evolution. The Zeltser lab is looking for a motivated scientist to join their team as an Assistant Professor of Medical Sciences in Medicine at the Columbia University Medical Center (non-tenure track). The lab studies how the sympathetic nervous system regulates metabolism and how this is impacted by obesity and aging. We utilize a variety of genetically engineered mouse models, virus-based neural tracing and chemogenetic approaches, single nuclear transcriptomics, and in vivo physiological and metabolic measurements. The ultimate goal is to identify neural circuits that regulate distinct aspects of brown fat and function and systemic metabolism. The ideal applicant will be an experienced researcher with expertise in both neuroanatomy and the neurobiology of autonomic regulation of peripheral targets and/or central regulation of metabolic parameters. The procedures for this project require expertise in multiple advanced techniques. The experienced researcher must be able to master state-of-the-art techniques to map and manipulate sympathetic circuits regulating discrete targets in the periphery, including stereotaxic injections, viral tracing, chemogenetics and fiber photometry. In parallel, this project also involves the analysis of physiological phenotypes in vivo, including thermogenesis, glucose uptake and lipolysis. Experience with surgical techniques in mice is essential. The applicant will be expected to lead projects independently and to train and mentor others. The applicant is also expected to make substantive contributions to the formulation and writing of manuscripts and grant applications. Interest in developing new technologies is a plus.
