Job Description LGBTQ+ Outreach & Engagement Specialist Organization: In Our Own Voices, Inc. (IOOV) Location: Albany, NY Employment Type: Full-Time, On-Site Reports To: Director of Health Services About Us In Our Own Voices, Inc. (IOOV) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the survival, growth, and empowerment of LGBTQ+ people of color. As one of the few comprehensive LGBTQ+ POC organizations in the country, IOOV delivers health, advocacy, and community-building programs rooted in cultural humility, racial and gender equity, and justice. Position Overview The LGBTQ+ Outreach & Engagement Specialist is a community-facing role that connects directly with LGBTQ+ individuals of color—particularly Women who have Sex with Women (WSW), Young Men who have Sex with Men (YMSM), and Transgender, Gender Non-Conforming, and Non-Binary (TGNCNB) people. This position combines public health outreach, HIV/HCV testing, peer engagement, and client-centered support to reduce health disparities and expand access to care. The Specialist will represent IOOV in community spaces, from college campuses and nightlife venues to salons, barbershops, and neighborhood health fairs. Key Responsibilities Outreach, Testing & Education * Conduct outreach in-person and virtually to WSW, YMSM, and TGNCNB communities, especially in underserved areas. * Provide HIV and HCV testing, counseling, and linkage to care using trauma-informed and culturally competent approaches. * Create and distribute health education materials tailored to diverse LGBTQ+ audiences. Community Engagement & Partnerships * Represent IOOV at community events, health fairs, college campuses, and local venues. * Build and strengthen relationships with community partners, businesses, and service providers. * Participate in coalitions, advisory boards, and community forums to expand visibility and impact. Client Services & Follow-Up * Connect clients to affirming health services, including PrEP, STI testing, mental health care, and case management. * Provide consistent follow-up to support ongoing care engagement and retention. Documentation & Compliance * Accurately record outreach activities, testing services, and referrals in accordance with IOOV and funder requirements. * Submit complete and timely monthly reports and data. Qualifications Minimum Requirements * Associate’s degree in Health Education, Human Services, or a related field (Bachelor’s degree preferred). * At least 1 year of professional experience working with TGNCNB, WSW, and/or YMSM communities. * At least 1 year of experience in HIV prevention, sexual health education, or community outreach. * Demonstrated cultural competency and comfort engaging LGBTQ+ communities in diverse public settings. * Flexible schedule, with availability for evenings and weekends. * Valid NYS driver’s license and reliable transportation. Preferred * Bilingual (Spanish/English). * Certified in HIV/HCV testing or willingness to obtain certification within 90 days of hire. * Experience engaging communities in nightlife, campus, or grassroots settings. Key Skills & Attributes * Deep understanding of health equity, intersectionality, and LGBTQ+ cultural dynamics. * Ability to build trust and rapport with historically marginalized communities. * Strong communication and interpersonal skills. * Comfortable working in both structured settings and nontraditional venues. * Proficient in data entry, reporting, and digital outreach platforms.
