Job Description Job Title: Housing Specialist- Marian Hall Reports to: Fair Futures Supervisor Location: 337 East 17th Street, New York, NY 10003 Hours: 35 Hours/Week; Non-Exempt Salary Range: 50K-55K Annually based on relevant post graduate education and experience Job Summary: Youth aging out of care in NYC face many hurdles in obtaining housing, including lack of affordable housing. The Housing Specialist will utilize a developmental approach to provide housing support to participants 17 years old and older. Supports will include developing housing leads and resources to help them locate housing; facilitating workshops to build their skills and increase knowledge related to living independently and transitioning into the community; advocating on behalf of youth with landlords and brokers to overcome any challenges to securing suitable housing; and assisting with securing resources to help with moving expenses. Each area of focus requires expertise to ensure the youth can access housing opportunities, be supported emotionally, and continue to be plugged into to a supportive network after locating housing. Major Duties: • Provides housing assistance to young people in foster care including NYCHA, Section 8, supportive housing, Housing Connect and other forms of housing., • Develops and maintains up to date information about housing issues, available subsidies, and programs., • Work with participants to develop and implement individualized goals based upon the specific service needs of the participant, and with a focus on moving into to a more independent living opportunity., • Collaborate with Property Manager to ensure all housing requirements are communicated to residents and maintained., • Develop and facilitate workshops to build skills and increase knowledge around living independently. Provides expert consultation/guidance to EFFC/TFFC casework staff in their work with families with particular emphasis on those who need housing assistance., • Works directly with participants to assist them with housing services/problems. Duties and Responsibilities: General responsibilities include (but are not limited to): College Advising: • Manage a caseload of approximately 125-150 college students, meeting at least once, but in some cases two to four times per semester based on student priority level, in addition to regular video/calls/texts, to provide advising services focused on college persistence and credit attainment, • Become an expert on your assigned campuses through research and exploration, with the goal to be able to direct alumni to their campus offices, resources, and supports early and often, • Connect, collaborate, and maintain relationships with key campus staff and support offices in order to best support our alumni and address challenges that arise efficiently and effectively, • Conduct routine follow-ups to ensure successful registration and completion of coursework and drive registration for the summer term for students who are under-credited, • Assist students in writing and submitting financial aid and enrollment letters of appeal when needed to maintain enrollment status and/or financial aid, • Assist students with FAFSA/TAP renewals and loan counseling completion when necessary., • In Year 2, recruit for and progress monitor students’ participation in KIPP Forward’s Wayfinders Career Programs, which includes completing a career assessment, resume and mock interview workshops, engaging in networking practices, and applying for a sophomore year internship or career exposure opportunity., • Track Persistence Benchmarks with every student contact on four key indicators of Persistence: Financial, Socio-Emotional, Academic, and Passion/Purpose/Plan (Career Readiness), • Utilize KIPP Forward’s Caseload Engagement & Advising Management System (CEAMS) to analyze student academic data and progress towards goals, prioritize campus visits and outreach, and focus your 1:1 meetings on transformational coaching, • Drive the submission of transcripts in January and May, • Drive completion of our annual satisfaction survey from your caseload, • Attend mandatory New Fellows Training held full-time from July 13 – August 7, 2026 (week 1 in NYC, week 2-4 virtual). The BronxWorks Senior Homelessness Prevention Project (SHPP) helps low-income Bronx residents aged 60 years or older avoid eviction. SHPP housing specialists work with seniors who have active cases against them in Bronx Housing Court, helping them avoid eviction in both the short term and long term. We assist seniors in navigating housing court, securing funds to pay back rent, identifying eligibility for benefits, and accessing budget counseling.
